Quaritch POV:

I couldn't believe my eyes as I looked at my reflection in the small mirror no bigger than my hand. Not that my hand was a normal size. Had to be at least double the size of my normal human hand. And my skin. My skin was as blue as blue could be. It had taken a while to get it into my head that I was in the body of a Na'vi. And that my human body was somewhere on this planet rotting away. Nothing left but bones. I had died but my memories were saved.

I ran my fingers across my jaw and cheek. Before someone knocked and told me it was time.

I entered a room full of blue creatures and humans. It was weird to see my old military buddies looking just like me. Blue. I got to the front of the room and looked at the soldiers.

"We are not in Kansas anymore" I started, looking around to everyone. My speech felt quite similar to the one I had told months ago. Or at least what felt like months ago. In reality it was 15 years ago.

Just as I was about to continue I saw someone. Just as blue as everyone else, but younger. Much younger. She couldn't have been older than 14 or 15. She sat on a table with her legs open and swinging. Her hands resting on the edge of the table.

She wore combat boots the same as everyone else. She had brown carco shorts and green tank top on. The top half of her hair was pulled into a bun. The rest of her long locks were hanging down her head.

I don't know how I didn't see the girl earlier. Her hair unlike every other blue looking soldier, was white. Not blond, white. Just like snow. Hints of grey in the roots...like the moon.

She saw me looking at her and rolled her eyes at me. "Stand up kid" I told her. She hopped off of the table she was sat on. "Come up the front" I added. She pushed her way through the crowd of grown ups and stood up the front. Hands clasped in front of her. "Whats your name kid" I asked her. She let out a sigh. Moving her head mere inches to her sides to glance at the adults all staring daggers in the back of her white hair and blue skin.

"Y/n sir." She said loud while standing up straighter. She had an Australian accent "I'm 15." She said answering my next question before I could ask it. "Your eyebrows raised. I guess I got ya second question right? Then your going to ask, 'so kid, what are you doing in a place like this? Why are you here?'" she said making her voice deeper and putting in an accent. "I'll say. Because I didn't have much of a choice." Y/n crossed her arms. Widening her stance a little more. She raised her eyebrows seeing if she was right. I nodded and she took that as her que to go back to her seat.

She walked back with her head high and sat back in her seat, smiling at someone I didn't recognise still in their original human form.

I continued on with my talk and everyone went on listening. Once I was done everyone slowly stood up to leave. I on the other hand rushed out to see General Ardmore.

Why was there a child in my team? I wasn't going to be able to function a team if she was around. Someone would have to watch over her, probably me. She would distract the mission.

"General!" I shouted through the room full of people in uniform. I stormed around trying to find her. I looked past some screens and saw her going to look at me.

"Ah, colonel Quaritch just the person I needed to see" she said looking up from the screen she was inspecting. I took a breath of Pandora air throught the mask.

"Why do I have a child on my team?" I asked towering over the woman.  She opened her mouth but barely got to words out when another voice entered the conversation. Y/n.

"I was going to ask why a dead man was leading us" her Australian accent rang through the quite room filled with soft beeps and chatters around.

"That's actually why I wanted to see you colonel." Ardmore said turning back to me after looking at the young blue girl. She removed the lollipop from her mouth, took in a breath of air from the mask and placing the coloured sphere back into her sharp toothed mouth.
"Y/n here is your translator and will help you along your journeys. She will tell you what animals and plants you can and can't go near.-"

"I'm basically your life support" she interrupted. She took the lolliepop out of her mouth indicating she was going to keep talking. "You may be the colonel of the missions but I lead you. If you don't listen to me you won't survive one hour out there."

I raised my eyebrows and almost went to protest. But as she saw me opening my mouth she put her finger up, getting up from her seat to speek again. "Do you know how to speak the language?..because what happened if we come across some natives... What if you come across a particular fruit and get hungry and next thing you know your dead. And you may have your fair share of fights but what about how to find your way in those forests. I know them better than I know myself."

"Young y/n here has been here for a year making her way into these forests and studying everything in person. As well as her years of reading about the animals and plants. She has been speaking Na'vi since she was 8" Ardmore said with crossed arms.

Y/n looked at me with her arms cross too. Legs apart. She looked like a true soldier.

"Everywhere you go outside of this facility, she goes" the general added.

"Life support" I mumbled back before walking out of the room. Life support? A young girl was my life support? This was ridiculous. I had more years of experience than her years of life. What would happen when we were under attack. Would I have a screaming little girl in my arms? Probably.
