Y/n Pov:
You stayed up in that fresh air for as long as you could. You were so glad the night had cleared otherwise this ride wouldn't have been as enjoyable.
But you could tell that the animal you rode was getting tired. It was the middle of the night after all. Plus Neteyam was following you like a hawk, probably thinking you were going to try to run away...or fly.
You headed back to the cave and landed down gently, Neteyam not long after you. You jumped off the animal and ran your hand as you walked to the front of him.
"I haven't seen anything like you" you mumbled as you pat his head. You looked to the boy and squinted at him. "What?" You asked. He was looking at you with big eyes, ears pulled down. No emotion.
"You haven't seen anything like him because he is one of a kind...no other ikran like him" the boy said giving his own ikran a pat.
"Right" you said looking away from the boy not quite believing him. You could hear him huff out.
"I'm serious. We call him the Black Knight. He is the most feared ikran out there...and he chose you" you fluttered your eyes to the boy. You raised your eyebrows. Surprise all over your face. Quickly looking back to the calm creature in front of you.
"How is he feared?" You asked quietly, you were a bit upset that a calm animal like him was feared.
"He isn't normally like this...he is normally a killer. He has always been avoided. We are told to fear him. I think it's the black" the boy replied stepping closer to you.
That's when his name came to mind. Again, a feeling. You didn't choose this name. You felt as though you had to name him this.
Kxetse. Na'vian word meaning sun. Ironic. But his yellow glowing eyes said otherwise. You turned to the boy and stared him up and down.
"His name is Kxetse." It was now Neteyams turn to look me up and down. Disgusted eyes. Hatred.
"Sun?" He asked. You nodded once. He thinned his lips before turning back to his ikran patting him. This conversation was at an end. Time for a new one
"So...Why haven't you run away yet? You could have easily gotten away on...Kxetse." you rolled your eyes a little too dramatically. Stepping away from the ikran and to the edge of the cave.
"Why do you care?" You asked with a spit. Why would he care? He hated you. So much that he couldn't even answer your question.
What you didn't see was the look of worry in Neteyams face. The care. The scared feeling he had when he thought you were going to run.
"Why is it that you hate me so much?" You asked turning to the boy. He was mid eye rolled when you saw him. You had finally got him to speak.
"Have I ever said that I hate you?" He asked putting his arms out wide. You thought for a few seconds and shook your head.
"No...but your actions say otherwise" you said getting a little louder now. The boy groaned placing his head in his hands. "Honestly I'm surprised you didn't kill me when you first saw me."
The boys face expressions lighted when he heard your words. His eyes fluttered everywhere but to yours. He wasn't able to look at you.
"Did you ever read about the seeds of the soul tree?" He asked, finally resting his eyes to the ground between the 2 of you. His question was stupid.
"Yes of course I have...why?" You asked stepping a little closer. He was uncomfortable. You bent you knees a little to try and look in his eyes. "Neteyam?" He took in a breath through his nose before looking to finally meet your eyes.
