Hawks's choice of words seemed to shift the atmosphere as silence fell between the two once again.
"A simple 'yeah' would've worked," Dabi said, turning his face farther away from the blond. Perhaps the darkness was playing tricks on Hawk's eyes however, he could've sworn he saw a light shade of pink brush Dabi's cheeks.
A moment passed before the dark-haired villain spoke again. "It was because of an ideology that I, alongside other members, joined the League," Dabi began. "However, the ideology stopped being significant a long time ago."
Dabi's words made Hawks curious. "So, why are you still with the League?"
The dark-haired villain sat silently for a moment, contemplating his response. Lifting his head to face the blond, he finally responded. "Perhaps I realized the benefits the League could provide me in achieving my goal."
Hawks was unaware of the dark-haired villain's goal however, it was evident this was not the appropriate time to prod him about it.
Tearing his eyes away from the hero he spoke. "However, prying information out of me while I still have alcohol in my system won't work-"
"-didn't plan on it," Hawks interrupted.
The dark-haired villain turned to face the blond again, searching it for any hint of malice. When he didn't find any, he looked away and let out a light huff. "You're fuckin' weird, pigeon," Dabi joked.
"You're the one who broke into my house not once but twice," Hawks replied. In response, Dabi only let out another light huff causing a smile to play at his lips.
Hawks had kept reminding himself that everything he was doing was in favor of bettering society, to keep them safe from villains. However, Dabi was growing on the blond. Seeing something as simple as the dark-haired villain's smile made the hero realize that maybe villains weren't just evil beings destined to take their rage out on the world and its people; they were human, each with their own story. Perhaps all those years with the Hero Public Safety Commission had made him disregard that simple yet important fact.
Hawks had made his way to the end of the bed and sat alongside the dark-haired villain. Dabi's eyes followed his movements from the corner of his eye.
Hawks, now in a light-hearted mood, teased the villain. "Enjoying the view, Dabi?" Hawks spoke mischievously, referring to what Dabi had said the other night.
"Maybe," Dabi replied, still eyeing the blond from the corner of his eye. His response caught Hawks completely off guard causing his cheeks to be flushed red.
Despite the room being illuminated by the city's lights peering through the window wall, Dabi noticed the change in color on the blond's cheeks. "Red suits you pigeon; you should wear it more often," Dabi flirted, his voice reverting back to its low raspy tone.
Similar to before, something inside Hawks tugged causing his pulse to fasten. Dabi knew how to manipulate his tone accordingly, that's for sure.
Embarrassment came over the blond causing his eyes to drop away from the villain's intense state. Normally Hawks would be able to overcome his embarrassment however, whatever Dabi had spurred inside him was preventing that from happening.
In an attempt to rid himself of his embarrassment, he blurted. "You should head to the couch if you're hoping to get a good amount of rest."
The villain soon lifted from the edge of the bed but instead of walking towards the door, he made his way to the front of the blond. There Dabi stood, looking down at the now-frozen hero who relucted to move his eyes away from the ground.
"Why won't you look at me, pigeon," Dabi muttered under his breath, faint enough to prevent the hero from hearing it.
The dark-haired villain slowly bent down, bringing his face to the blond's ear, and let out a hot breath before speaking. "Too bad I can't sleep with you," Dabi whispered enticingly before standing upright and making his way out the bedroom door.
Hawks was left sitting on the edge of his bed, heart racing. Dabi knew what exactly what he was doing and Hawks unwillingly started to give him the reaction he wanted. Gathering his thoughts, the hero stood up and made his way to his side of the bed. The blond buried himself under the sheets, careful of his wings, and stared out the window wall. Hawks pondered; maybe being tasked to infiltrate the League wasn't such a bad thing after all.
Soon, the hero's vision faded into darkness, allowing him to rest before another day of hero work.
