There Hawks lay, beneath Dabi and completely vulnerable to anything he might do. The blond typically didn't find himself beneath another individual, neither when flying nor when in bed, yet seeing the dark-haired villain hovering above him caused the nerves in his stomach to tingle as if he had butterflies.
Slowly, one of Dabi's hands released its grip and brought it toward one of the blond's cheeks. The scarred hand hovered longingly over the cheek, tempted to place it against the soft pale yet lightly blushed skin. After a moment that continued far longer than it should have, the dark-haired villain snatched his hand away. At the same time, he released his other hand from the blond's wrist and sat upright, straddling his hips.
The villain's gaze strayed away from the blond and instead focused on the window wall's glass that was coated with rainwater. "I should go," Dabi let out coldly.
Hawks's heart dropped forming a pit at the bottom of his stomach. Frantically, Hawks said the only thing that came to mind. "What? You can't follow through when somebody asks you to fuck them?" Almost instantly, the blond regretted his words.
Without adjusting his head or his posture, Dabi eyed the hero through the side of his eye. "This isn't about fucking you, pigeon. This is-" Dabi stopped his mouth from spouting more before taking a deep breath and continuing. "This is about something that doesn't concern you." His words were cheap yet sour. To Hawks, it hit harder than he would've liked to admit.
Nevertheless, Hawks refrained from backing down. "But aren't you the one who pinned me against my bed?" Although his reply was argumentative, the blond's tone stayed calm, making sure not to scare off the dark-haired villain.
As he did before, Dabi tore his gaze away from the blond. "And aren't you the one who chose not to escape?"
That's right, Hawks didn't attempt nor even want to escape from his pinned-down position. However, what made that so pivotal to Dabi? "So, what if I chose to stay? I don't understand your point," Hawks replied honestly.
The dark-haired villain hummed in response before speaking again. "Do you really not understand or is that just a part of your facade too, Hawks."
The hero was too stunned to defend himself; so, Dabi continued. "I'm sure your 'stupid mission' would require such a facade," the villain said as he returned his focus to the blond through the side of his eye. However, this time, his eyes were lifeless and cold, simply awaiting Hawks's reaction.
"What the hell are you talking about, Dabi?" the blond replied, the pit in his stomach growing in size.
Dabi ignored the blond's words and spoke. "Yet, you wish I was anything but a villain. You, don't resent me, you resent villains, don't you?" Dabi asked, his eyebrows slightly furrowing at the last two words.
Turning his head to properly face the hero, he further cornered the blond. "But, I'm a villain too, and like me, every villain has a story. It's the hero society that paints us out to be nothing but evil beings destined to take their rage out on the world and its people." Although Dabi spoke calmly, Hawks felt his words were weighed with emotion. "So, if you learned to like one villain then why resent the rest if you haven't even heard their story?"
The blond remained silent, unsure of what the appropriate response would be. Moreover, Hawks was unsure of what to think; his whole mind went numb. Nevertheless, he responded. "That's an interesting approach for sure but, how am I supposed to validate a villain's story when they've killed somebody?" Hawks slowly leaned up on his forearms awaiting Dabi's response.
"Who is that somebody they killed? A killer? A rapist? An abusive family member or friend? A bully who went too far? A petty criminal? Furthermore, why should those same types of people be allowed to become heroes?" Dabi questioned the blond.
In some sort of slightly fucked up way, Dabi had a point. Though, Hawks felt that villains still committed crimes nonetheless. "Those types of people would never become heroes-"
"But see, they do," the dark-haired villain interrupted. "Heroes are idolized and because of that, too many fake heroes enter the hero society. A true hero's ultimate goal is to save people. A fake hero's ultimate goal is money, fame, or anything besides saving people."
"So, is that why you're a villain?" Hawks asked abruptly. "To rid society of its fake heroes?"
The dark-haired villain fell silent.
Hawks left his slightly leaned position and sat upright whilst the dark-haired villain continued to straddle his hips. "Okay, then why don't you tell me the reason you became a villain then?"
