The sun was brightly shining over the horizon, slowly greeting the hills, flowers, and bees. But as for Bucky, he lay still on the wooden floor. He had not gotten a wink of sleep. He tried his best to just keep his eye closed but every time he did, he would get flashes of you. You called out his name, staring at him in confusion as you began to break into tiny pieces. "Y/n?" Bucky remembers calling your name out, confused and distraught. A small teardrop began to fall down your disappearing cheeks. Bucky ran towards you. You held your hand out, but you couldn't hold on. Bucky looks at you, terrified for once in his life. "This isn't your fault". We're the last words you said to him before you go. How were you here for a moment, and the next go? Bucky stared at where you were standing "Y/n!" He shouted. But Bucky hadn't realized that he shouted your name loudly in his room. Bucky sat up, damped in sweat. How couldn't he save you? Bucky rubbed his eyes and stood up from the floor. Making the floor softly creak under his footsteps. Not to his surprise, Yelena was in the kitchen, making breakfast for the two of you. She was flipping pancakes but checking on your blueberry waffles. Bucky sat on the wooden stool, just aimlessly staring at the wall. "Another long night?" Yelena asked without staring around to look at you. Bucky stood silent, Yelena knew. She sighed and turned around with two full plates. She gently placed down Bucky's plate which contained waffles, strawberries, hash browns, and scrambled eggs. "You cannot keep torturing yourself like this Barnes. With what happened that day". Bucky turned to look at Yelena "Do you know what happened that day? Have you come up with an explanation of what the fuck happened to half of the population?" Bucky asked sternly. Yelena placed her plate down "Yes, we lost that day Barnes. We couldn't defeat Thanos or retrieve the stones. That's what happened". Yelena said as she placed a piece of her honey-glazed pancake in her mouth. Bucky shook his head "And you've just come to terms with it just like that? We lost?" Bucky asked with a husky voice, trying to keep his fury in the pit of his stomach. Yelena chewed her food and placed her utensils down. "Yes. Because what are we supposed to do? We don't know where Anthony Stark is. I haven't gotten a call back from Natasha. And a few other avengers were wiped out, along with Fury. So, what's your bright idea? Just continue having nightmares, shutting me out and groaning like an old man?" Yelena pointed that out to Bucky. Bucky slammed his metal arm down the table "We didn't only just lose some of the avengers. We lost Y/n." "Yes, I understand. Many other people lost their families too. Someone's child is gone. And someone's mother is gone. What are they doing?" Yelena asked once more, trying to reason with him. Bucky leaned in "obviously living in fucking denial!" He yelled and pushed away his food. Bucky stood up from the stool and began walking away from the kitchen, walking away from Yelena. Yelena placed her hands on top of the table, trying her best not to beat his ass. Bucky was grabbing his coat and placing his hand on the door handle "James Buchanan Barnes! Sit your ass down! Now!" Yelena called out to him. Bucky yelled back "Do you know what it feels like?! Do you how awful it is to replay that moment in your mind? Over and over again? Y/N called my name! And she told me it wasn't my fault. How do we know she isn't out there somewhere looking for us!" Bucky yelled as he threw the cushioned chair "James" Yelena started to walk slowly to him, trying to calm him down. "Do you have any idea how MUCH, it hurts me to think we might not get her back? Yelena! How does this apartment not haunt you with her ghost? Her laugh lingers around the windows, and her touch is still warm on my arm." "James" Yelena said again as she finally reached him, and placed both of her hands on his wrists "Fucking answer me! Yelena, Goddamn it! How do you not miss her? Yelena, I loved Y/n!" James cried out as he fell on his knees to the wooden floor. Tears slipped out and his chest heaved. Yelena joined him on the floor and brought him close to her chest. Bucky couldn't stop crying and involuntary rocking his body back and forth. Yelena grasped his face with her palms. "Shhh. Bucky, stop. No, you don't understand. I miss Y/n too. I miss their radiant smile and embrace. But the reason why her ghost doesn't haunt me is that I believe she isn't dead. She just disappeared, I don't know how or why or what exactly happened but she vanished in thin air". Bucky shook his head as more tears came out "How am I supposed to " "We keep going, Buck? We continue living our lives, just like Y/n would have wanted to. Not just as assassins but as civilians too. She taught us that we have a human side, remember?" Yelena reminded Bucky. He nodded his head against Yelena's hands. "Okay then. We continue to live until we regroup. But until that happens, we have to have hope, for her at least. Please, she wouldn't want you to blame yourself or even me". Yelena said as the echo of your words came back to Bucky "It's not your fault". Bucky took a deep breath. He could smell the sea salt in the hair, and the way you squealed the day you three had a beach day. Bucky just wanted you back in his arms. "Do you think we'll get her back?" Bucky asked once he finally calms down. Yelena shrugged her shoulders "I don't know, but first let's focus on getting each other back. We lost ourselves after that battle. Yeah? One day at a time, James". Bucky nodded his head and began to stand up. Yelena expected to go back to the kitchen but Bucky grabbed Yelena into a strong embrace. Yelena held him back and smiled as she rubbed your back. "Thank you, I love you, Lena. And I am sorry for " Yelena smacked his back "James don't start. I love you too, come on, let's go finish our breakfast and plan out our day". Bucky agreed and pursue Yelena back to the table. As the two of them enjoyed their breakfast and talked about what plans the day would convey. Bucky would occasionally play with your necklace chain, just to feel your presence in the room. Yelena noticed and smiled, she knew you were there with them. You weren't truly gone, you were just missing. And oh how much they prayed to see you again, just to tell you how much they missed you.
