"How you all doing tonight?" I heard Vic's voice as I stood backstage. The crowd screamed different responses. It sounded like a loud scream to me. "Good." He paused, walking around the stage, setting things up quickly. "I hope you all don't mind. I have an introduction to make. You are the first fans to know about her. We've been keeping her a secret, sort of. But, she's really amazing. Give it up for the band's little sister, Rene Fuentes!"
My heart skipped several beats. He called me up there, I had to go. But I was still, like a statue. I couldn't move. I saw Mike walk towards me as he picked me up and carried me onto the stage. The crowd cheered. Why were they cheering? I thought they would hate me. Fans never like change too much.
"Isn't she lovely?" The crowd roared again! "You know what else is lovely about her is her voice." I looked at him with wide eyes. "Ah, she didn't think I heard her when she was belting Asking Alexandria in the shower that one time. But I did."
"Now this whole building knows I sing to Asking Alexandria in the shower," I said. I forgot Mike put me in front of a mic, so it echoed around the room. The crowd laughed.
"I know we usually open with a crazy song, but we're going to get the slow stuff out of the way so we can end the show really hard. You guys down with that?" Another cheer from the crowd. "Alright. This song is called Hold On Till May. Hit it!"
The song started, and I realized this was the song I was going to sing with him. I had until the female part to stay calm and work up the nerve. Vic started, and he sounded wonderful, as always. I kept my eyes closed, imagining that shower wall, the wall that I don't mind singing in. Swaying with the music, I waiting until it was my part. Despite my pounding heart, I remembered Vic words. That those fans were counting on me to sing this song. It seemed like a lot of pressure. But, I opened my mouth and-
"If you were me, you'd do the same. And I can't take anymore. I'll draw the shades and close the door. Everything's not alright, and I would rather..." The crowd cheered louder than they had all night. I looked to Vic, who was smiling widely. I felt so relieved that I did that. Where the courage came from, I had no idea. I just looked around the stage, and everyone was smiling proudly at me.
"Wasn't she wonderful?" Jaime said into his mic. The crowd roared once more, and I smiled with the band.
"She's going to watch the rest of the show down there with you guys, is that cool?" I saw hands go up, and the crowd shrieked. What an experience. This was everything I ever wanted to happen. All the times I've ever dreamed of singing onstage with my favourite band. It just came true.
Soon, I was with the crowd, and we were just enjoying the music. And no one cared that I was a new addition. They just appreciated good music, and other people that have the same appreciation. They didn't care that I was the little sister of Mike and Vic. They stood in this crowd and treated me as an equal. That was something I always wanted, too. To be treated like I was worth something. I can't say this enough, but I really love Pierce the Veil.
