This could not be any better. It's truly hit me that I am on a bus with the Pierce the Veil, two of them at are my brothers, and we are on our way to Warped Tour. If I ever thought of this experience before I officially met Mike and Vic, I would say it was just a really good dream. But it's real, and it all made me very happy. They were joking with me, and having a good time. Tony Perry wanted me to make him a kandi bracelet. Jaime Preciado was cracking jokes left and right with me. Mike Fuentes was opening Monsters for me. Vic was helping me feel better by talking me through things. And I, Rene Fuentes, was happy for the first time.
“So, the lineup looks pretty good. Our buddies from Sleeping With Sirens will be there, the guys from Of Mice & Men are there, and Bring Me the Horizon, which you obviously like." Vic was referring to my bracelet. “Anyone else you might enjoy?" He handed me the list of bands and people that would be there.
“Is our boy, Bryan going to be there?" Mike asked. He took a look at the list from behind my shoulder. “You're down with Bryan Stars, aren't you?"
“Of course I am! Oh, and Johnnie's going to be there, too!" I dramatically fanned myself with the paper, as if I was going to faint. Jaime laughed.
“You're into Johnnie?" Mike asked, sounding like a protective brother again. I decided to mess with him.
“He's hot!" I said, over-exaggerating the T. “I've been told I'm quite the charmer myself. Think I got a chance with him?" I asked, turning to Jaime, who was laughing so hard, his face turned a shade of red.
“Oh yeah? Who told you that?" Mike asked.
“My adoptive mom." Tony started to join in on the laughter. Even Vic was giggling a bit. I never was funny, but making them laugh actually made me feel a bit better about myself. I was smiling, with a real smile on my face. That's never happened before. I liked being happy, and in that moment, I wasn't sure why I would ever have to be sad again. There are real good things in life. Why not wait for them to happen and feel true happiness? Because even if it is for a little while, it is the best feeling anyone could possibly imagine.
I took another look at the lineup. “Motionless in White? No way! I love them!"
“Josh and Devin are so cool, you'd love them," Mike said. “Ricky's awesome."
“Devin's the cutest one! Well, Chris is amazing, too. I've always wanted to ask him how he does his sick high screams. I could never pull it off when I try."
“Oh, so you're interested in screaming, huh?" Vic asked. “You know, I could teach you if you really want to learn. I kind of do this sort of thing a lot. I would like to think I'm pretty decent at it."
I started to feel a bit embarrassed. I didn't know why, but my face started to feel hot. I stuttered as I tried to talk. “I-I guess I'm okay at g-growls. They're so much easier. B-but, I'm not that good. My voice usually ends up cracking at one point or another."
“Is it because you're nervous?" I nodded. “That's why! With screaming, you can't afford to be nervous. You just have to go for it. Don't be afraid to try." I smiled. Vic always knew what to say somehow. Even though we just met yesterday, it felt as though he knew me well enough to be able to comfort me no matter what. I'm sure he's done this sort of thing for loads of his fans. But it almost felt...different.
“When are we supposed to arrive at Warped?" Tony asked.
“Very soon," Vic said, still looking down at me. I smiled at him, and he returned the favor. I've got to say, I truly have the greatest brothers ever...
