Soon enough, we were back in our bunks in the tour bus. Tony fell asleep pretty quickly. I guess all that walking around and signing things really wore him out. Mike noticed me chuckling at him, and joined in on the laughter.
"So, you ready for another show tomorrow night?" Vic asked.
"You guys have shows every night?"
"Sometimes. But, we do get breaks. Like, when we went to find you. This is nothing big. Besides, we love performing." Vic looked at the time. "Ah, 2am. I guess we should probably sleep now." We laughed, and got into bed.
"Rene?" Mike's voice flowed through my tired ears. I sat up slowly, remembering the top of the bunk. "We're going to get lunch. You hungry?"
"Lunch?" I looked at the time. Crap. I slept in again. However, nobody seemed to mind as they laughed and began leaving the bus.
The preparation before the show went by pretty fast. It was nothing compared to last night. Vic asked me to sing with him again, and I decided why not? It should be fun. It would be last time, I told myself. Better enjoy it.
I got nervous again, but everything flowed the same as last night. Fans screaming, then later asking to sign things and take pictures. However, one fan seemed off to me the moment I met him.
"You were really good up there," he started. "I've always wanted to sing with Pierce the Veil. You were a bit of a surprise to me. You don't plan to change the band, do you?"
"Absolutely not," I said. "I was a fan, too, before I knew they were my brothers."
"Well, things happen." He grinned widely. "I'm sorry about this. It's really nothing personal." I was confused at first. I guess this guy had a little too much to drink before he came to the show. His breath reeked of alcohol. Suddenly, he started throwing punches, and he missed, thankfully. But, he did manage to throw me to the ground.
"Rene!"
It was the last thing I heard before I blacked out and woke up in my bunk. I heard voices in the next room.
"We need to keep a closer eye on her," Vic's voice said.
"We can't just watch her all the time. We have things to do as a band. Things were easier before we had a little sister around..."
Those words were the shot that went directly to my heart. That hurt. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never asked for them to watch me "all the time." Well, if things were better when I wasn't around...
I had an idea.
I stepped outside the bus as quietly as possible. Somehow, nobody noticed that I had gotten up and left. I started to walk away from the bus. I had no idea where to go. They were all I had left besides...
I pulled out my phone and called the only person I could think of.
"Mom? I hope you're not busy. I need a ride..."
