matt

i was standing in the living room, talking to devon, one of chris's friends. he's the one who invited us to this party.

he knew we were all clean, so when we walked in he didn't offer us any drinks.

"i'm going to see if i can find any non-alcoholic drinks." chris told us. "want anything?"

"any soda that's not coke will do." i responded.

he gave us a thumbs up and walked into the kitchen.

"devon, where's the bathroom?" nick asked.

"um, down the hall, third door on the left." he gestured towards the hall.

nick left and devon looked at me.

"and then there were two." he laughed.

"thanks for inviting us man." i said, chuckling.

"oh, it's no problem. just because you guys are sober doesn't mean you can't have fun at a party. maybe meet a special someone?" he winked.

i laughed and shook my head. i looked over to the kitchen for chris.

i saw a girl with dirty-blonde hair, sipping out of a red solo cup, starting right at me.

she was wearing a black dress. and she was pretty. very pretty.

she tapped her friends shoulder, who was standing next to her and pointed at me.

i looked back at devon. chris had come back with the drinks. he handed me a pespi.

"thanks." i said, opening the soda.

i looked over at the girl again, only to she her friend dragging her into another room. she looked back at me before going out of sight.

i looked back, nick had come back from the bathroom.

"someone catch your eye?" he asked, with a smirk on his face.

"no, um, some girl was just staring at me."

"oh? is she pretty?"

"yea- i mean, um... yes. she is." i shook my head and rubbed my eyes.

"relax matt. you think she recognized you?"

"um, im not sure. her friend dragged her into another room." i chuckled.

"yeah, smart move."

"what the hell is that supposed to mean." i threw my hands up and glared at him.

"nothing!" he said and turned to chris and devon.

i rolled my eyes and thought about punching him in the shoulder. i looked behind me to see if the girl had come back in this room.

when i didn't see her i turned and joined the conversation with chris, devon, and nick.

awhile later i was sitting on the couch, chris next to me and a stranger i had no interest in talking to, on the other side.

"you know where the bathroom is, chris?" i asked him.

"uh, i think it's down that hall and the third door on left." he pointed towards the hallway.

i mumbled a thanks and made my way down the hall.

i didn't actually have to go to the bathroom, i just needed a break from the loud music and people.

i tried to open the door to the bathroom but it was locked.

so, i leaned up against the wall and waited. at the end of the hall was another room that looked like a smaller living room.
