hazel

two weeks had passed since me and matt first met and things were good.

we'd hung out more and it was fun. but every time we had i realized i always ended staying sober.

it was shocking to me.

every time one of the triplets invited me, it made me happy. i never had the urge to drink or smoke at all.

"you know, i've been thinking a lot about what matt said." i said, looking at the novo in my hand, in which i no longer felt like hitting.

"which thing?" aaliyah asked from the floor of my bedroom, taking the novo from my hand.

"the sober shit." she only laughed at me.

"you're joking right!"

"i'm serious, liyah." i sighed.

she stopped laughing and looked at me.

"oh shit." she whispered.

"i'm still not entirely sure but it's something i want to try. i don't know..." i shook my head.

"no, keep going. if you're gonna do it, you need to know why." she smiled and grabbed my hand, giving it a comforting squeeze.

"well, i feel like i've been living in a daze. like i haven't truly experienced life until recently. with i'm with the triplets... especially matt, i never even think about smoking. i'm always sober. i don't know if it's cause i want to impress him or something but i am. and i... enjoy it. it's nice. it's like a breath of fresh air. i dont know if that makes sense but it's all i got."

she nodded, carefully.

"no, i get it."

i knew aaliyah didn't have any reason to go sober and probably wouldn't but i knew she would support me no matter what.

"so, does this mean you gonna stop smoking altogether?"

"i dont know, maybe. i might do it every now and then but definitely no to getting wasted at parties."

"what?" she screeched.

"but you my party partner! babe, how am i gonna do that without you!"

"i can still go with you but i'm staying sober."

"ugh that's boring." she rolled her eyes.

i laughed.

"i love you, hazel." she said, grabbing my hand again.

"i love you, aaliyah." i smiled back at her.

"so, are you starting tonight?"

"absolutely not!" i yelled.

we both burst into a fit of laughter.

"no parties though!" she choked.

"no, not tonight." i giggled.

"i have an idea." she smirked.

"and what is that?"

"we can get high and watch your new best friends."

"oh, like a binge?"

"yeah!"

"let's do it!" i clapped.

"oh, and be sure to tell matt. he'll be proud."
