Chapter 20

WORM! WORM?

"Hello children," he sneered. I smirked.

"I knew it. Snake awakens through the worm. You're the worm so why don't you take off the turban." I said. Quirrel looked at me in shock.

"Clever girl, let me speak to her." A raspy voice said. I saw the mirror of Erised behind him. Quirrel unwrapped his turban. I looked into the snake-like face. I needed to distract him so Harry could get the Stone.

"I know everything." I said, watching the face.

"Nice try girl, Quirrel seize the boy he has the Stone!" Voldemort cried. Worm tried touching him but his skin erupted in boils.

"Then kill him!" Voldemort cried. I jumped in front of Harry.

"Get out of the way girl." Voldemort said.

"Remember when you said the same thing to Lily. You failed then, and you'll fail again." I said.

"Now!" Voldemort said.

"AVADA KEDRAVA!" Quirrel cried. It hit me, everything went black.

I stood in a garden. Everything was dark and dead other than a rose bush. A tall dark haired women wearing a white flowing gown  floated in. Her fair skin and black soulless eyes glowed eerily.

"Hello, Avery." She greeted with a sweet soft voice.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"I am death." She said.

"But death's a guy." I said, with a raised eyebrow.

"Everyone assumes that, but no." She laughed, a musical sound.

"You have a choice. You can die or you can lie in a coma waiting for the moment you're most needed." She said. I frowned. How could I leave when no one is ready? My gaze found the only colored thing in the garden, the roses.

"Aren't they beautiful? They're blood roses." She said picking one up. The rose was white with red blood flowing from it.  Flowing blood, my gaze blurred instead of the garden a river of blood flowed in front of me.

"You stop it." Death's voice boomed around me. I can.

"I'll live." I said barely above a whisper, everything disappeared.
