Yuto

The cold walls of my cell reminded me of the first time we got imprisoned after we tried escaping to New World. Those cells were so dark, uninviting and far from clean, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and there was always a stale stench in the air. The whole atmosphere was depressing, and all I could do was lie down on my stone hard mattress, close my eyes and dream of freedom.

How did they discover us? We thought we were in the clear. But they somehow still got us. Leaving the boys was what caused my second imprisonment, but no one could have predicted it. I was peacefully sleeping in my bed one night, and the following morning I found myself in the cell. They didn't even question me. I haven't talked to anyone but the people in the cells adjacent to mine while being there. It all felt like a bad dream, but I knew I wouldn't have been able to wake up from it.

I bet the government already sent an android to replace me, just like they did with Wonhyuk. But I believed Jaeyoung and Seungjun could immediately tell that the mass of scrap that entered our home wasn't me. I was sure of it. But I couldn't help but be worried for them. I was helpless, there was nothing I could do to help. At first I regretted leaving them for a few weeks, but ultimately realized it wasn't my fault.

It was only my second day in prison, but I already had enough. I grabbed the cold metal bars and looked outside of my cell, even though there was not much to see, and no one to talk to. I was alone. I closed my eyes and thought of my boyfriends, wondering where they were, how they were doing and how much I loved them.

But suddenly, my train of thought was cut short by a loud sound of a generator shutting down. Everything became even darker than it already was. The guard patrolling the area turned his flashlight on and immediately talked into his two-way radio to communicate with his higher-ups and figure out what had happened. "The power went off in the whole facility?! Oh. Okay, I understand. Just a malfunction? I'll stay here then." He put his two-way radio away, but shortly after, I heard the heavy sound of something hitting something else. The guard's flashlight moved rapidly before falling to the ground. Someone else picked it up and started moving toward my cell. Scared, I let go of the bars and walked to the back of the cell.
When the mysterious figure reached my cell, they shone the light on their face. Tears started rapidly rolling down my cheeks as I saw Seungjun, who then shone the light on Jaeyoung, who was standing beside him. I immediately rushed back to the front of the cell. Seungjun smiled at me widely and raised his hand, in which he held a large keyring with a few dozen keys. "Come on Yuto. We're leaving Dry Ice once and for all."

Chaos unleashed. After releasing me, we split up to quickly release everyone else from their cells. The power still wasn't back on, as Seungjun told me they damaged the main generator pretty badly. As we left the prison area, we saw silhouettes running from one side to the other. We saw prisoners running from guards, guards accidentally hitting other guards as they could barely recognize them, and prisoners knocking guards out. It was a total mess, but it would have helped us escape.

As we ran, Jaeyoung contacted our friends on New World through the transmitter. Hyojin was the one to answer this time. We were so happy to hear his voice. "Hyojin! Everything is going according to plan! We're so close! We just got Yuto out of prison, and conveniently enough we even found a piece of Asteroidite as we headed to the prison area. Everything is going swimmingly well!" "Jaeyoung! That is absolutely amazing! I bet you can make it this time! I believe in you, just keep running! We're waiting for you on the other side!"

We tightly held hands as we ran through the whole facility. A weird mix of both anxiety and hope lodged itself in my mind and heart. I was confident. We would finally be free.

We got to the lowest floor of the facility relatively easily. We already knew the whole place well after infiltrating it for the first time.
Soon enough, we found ourselves at the start of the long metal bridge we had run on months prior and where we ultimately ended us getting caught. But this time there were no guards in sight. Everything was so quiet. The abyss below us wasn't scary anymore. All three of us were there, we were safe, we were doing fine, and most importantly we had each other.
We quickly crossed the bridge, but as we arrived on the platform that housed the portal to New World, two guards suddenly emerged from behind the walls placed around the platform.

My heart shattered. We were so sure to make it. But alas, we lost once again. We let go of each other's hands as we kneeled down and raised our hands. A painful flashback ran through my mind. But this time, Genesis may have not been as "nice" as last time.

He could have chosen to kill us.

We were ready to have our hands handcuffed for the second time, the third for me personally. But the guards didn't move. They didn't even lift up their rifles. They instead lifted up the visors that were covering their faces.
I did not recognize them, but they looked oddly familiar. Who were they? Why weren't they arresting us?
My questions got a response very quickly. Seungjun slowly got up and started sobbing uncontrollably. I looked at him, and then at the two guards. And finally realized why they looked familiar.

They looked similar to Seungjun. They were Seungjun's parents. The parents who went missing a long time ago. For all this time, we thought they were dead. But Seungjun wanted to believe they were alive. And he was right.

I could finally breathe again. Those people weren't evil. They would have helped us.
They put their rifles on the ground, and they hugged their son with a river of tears flowing down their faces. "Seungjun," his mom said in between sobs "we don't have time. You have to escape. Just know that we love you and we would have never abandoned you. But we were forced. If we leave this place, we'll get killed. Genesis is a terrible person. You'll be safe in New World." Seungjun started crying even louder, and almost screaming he said "Come with us. Please."
His parents hugged him even tighter. "We cannot. If we step out of the facility, these bracelets we wear will automatically inject lethal poison into our bodies. I'm so sorry Seungjun. We'll stay alive here, for you. The only thing that matters now is that you and your friends get to New World safely." His dad's voice was pained, he could barely let the last words out. Jaeyoung and I started quietly sobbing too, moved by the bittersweet family reunion.
Seungjun chuckled "Actually, mom, dad... They're my boyfriends... Surprise?" he did a cute small hand motion as he tried widely smiling despite the tears. His parent hugged him one last time. "We're so proud of you."

We inserted the key charged with the Asteroidite into the mechanism of the portal. In a matter of seconds, the whole portal glowed in neon blue and purple lights, before opening. Seungjun grabbed my left hand and Jaeyoung my right. We looked at each other for a few seconds while smiling. Then we shortly looked at Seungjun's parents as they waved to us.

Finally, we stepped into the portal.
