The explosion blasted through the windows and into the library, causing everyone to scream, ducking and shielding their faces from the glass. This was followed promptly by the force created by the discharge, which was enough to lift the trainers from their feet and send them flying backwards across the room and smashing them through everything in between.
Pain shot through Serena's body as she dragged herself up onto her elbows, blinking furious tears away as she peered through the dust and smoke, scanning anything she could see in the attempt to locate the others. "Ash?" she croaked, looking to where the raven-haired trainer had been standing moments before the blast. "Bonnie?" There was no sign of the little girl or her older brother. "Clemont?"
A bought of coughing could be heard from behind a fallen rack a few feet to her right and she turned to see Ash waving weakly to her as he staggered back to his feet, wincing, bruised and a little bit bloody, but overall unharmed. "Serena!" he coughed, staggering over to her. "Are you all right?"
"Yeah," she whispered as he helped her to her feet. Together, they searched for any signs of the others. "Clemont! Bonnie!" she called, cupping her hands around her mouth, attempting to amplify her voice through the creaking of weak boards and the caving ceiling. "Elizabeth! Grant! Team Rocket?"
"Serena! Over here!" Bonnie's voice sounded much too high-toned. "Hurry! Something's wrong with Clemont and Elizabeth!"
Gasping, Serena hurried toward the sound of the little girl's voice, her brain going numb as she spotted a little portion of Bonnie's blond hair and found her huddled between a shattered desk and the wall. All over her face and arms were bloody scrapes and scratches but she didn't even seem to notice them. "Serena! Help!" she gasped, pointing off to her left.
Serena felt her heart stop as she turned slowly to see Clemont and Elizabeth lying there, unmoving. It looked like they had both lunged to protect Bonnie but neither had made it in time. At first, she feared they were dead, but then, to her relief, she could see Clemont's chest rising and falling weakly and both he and Elizabeth began to stir, moaning painfully. "W...what happened?" Elizabeth groaned, opening her eyes slowly to see the destruction that surrounded them.
"Lizzie!" Bonnie cried, lunging for her friend and throwing her arms around her neck.
Elizabeth blinked, not offended by the nickname at all. "Bonnie?" she muttered, scooping the girl into her arms. "You're safe?"
"Uh-huh," Bonnie said. "Thank you for trying to save me and Dedenne."
Elizabeth smiled weakly. "I had to," she replied. "You remind me so much of him..."
"Clemont!" Meanwhile, Serena had gone to aid the inventor who was recovering much more slowly. Groaning, and weakly stating that he needed to make sure Bonnie was okay, Clemont tried to pull himself to his feet, only for his legs to fail him and pull him back to the ground.
"S...serena," he coughed. "Bonnie. Is...is...she...?" He struggled to articulate his words.
"She's fine," Serena assured him.
He nodded and laid his head back down on the tiled floor. "In that case, I think I'll just lie here and die for a bit." He watched her with pain-filled eyes. One of his lenses was cracked now. No doubt he would have to get a new pair before the journey was out.
"Not a chance," Ash retorted, staggering up and grabbing a hold of Clemont's shoulders, pushing him up into a sitting position against the scientist's moans and groans. "You have to get up, Clemont. We have to find the others!"
"Is he all right?" Elizabeth questioned as she and Bonnie approached.
"Oh yeah," Ash laughed. "He's fine. Same old Clemont."
