We sped towards the pack border. With every passing moment we were closer to a life of freedom. Even though we all knew that we may be tracked down and killed, we each had our own reasons for the risk.
As we neared the South border ofnthe territory we noticed a line ofnwolves standing in a line infront of the bridge.
"Son of a bitch", Jackson grumbled as he slowed the truck down to a stop a few hundred yards away from the brigade of wolves.
"Those aren't our wolves" whispered Izzie.
"Then who are they and why are they blocking our border?" I asked.
As if on cue a black SUV pulled up in between the wolves standing guard, and a tall man with dark hair wearing a tuxedo stepped out of the passenger side. It was Alpha Blake Paul. Izzie's chosen mate.
The man walked towards the truck with his wolves flanking each side of him. When he was a few feet away he stopped.
"Izzie! Enough. Get out of the truck." he commanded
I glanced at Izzie and noticed a single tear streaming down her face as she fought to keep her bottom lip from trembling.
The Alpha continued to walk towards the truck. He carried himself with coolness but I could see the beast just below the surface waiting to be turned loss.
"I'll make you other two a deal. Give her to me and I'll let you go on your way. I have no desire to keep you from your plans. I only want what is mine." he said calmly.
"What do we do?" I panicked, looking at Jackson.
He looked at Izzie and asked, "Are you sure you want to leave? Like absolutely sure? Because if I do what I'm about to do, there will be no turning back."
Before she could answer the mask feel from Alpha Paul's face and he screamed, "Get out of the truck now or I will rip your throat out."
I glanced at Izzie, a steady stream of tears flowed freely down her face now.
"I would rather die than get out of this truck and leave with that monster" she said threw clenched teeth.
Looking at her , I knew she meant it. Something had happened to Izzie to make her feel the way she felt. I don't know exactly what, but I knew I couldn't allow her to be hurt again.
"You don't have to go with anyone you don't want to go with Izzie" I said as I took her hand in mine.
"Jackson... it's time to go." I said looking in the direction of the now seething Alpha and his pack.
"Yes mam" he replied, and with that he threw the truck into gear and barreled towards the Alpha and the wolves that flanked him.
As we got closer I closed my eyes and let out an involuntary scream as I felt the thud of a body hit the top of the truck.
A loud chorus of howls rang through the air as we sped over the bridge. I turned to see the wolves racing after us.
The realization of what just happened hit me followed by a wave if nausea. Not only were we deserters but now murderers.
