I broke out into a fit of laughter. He couldn't be serious.
"Sure, Jackie. I'll runaway with you, and hey, while we're at it we can just get married."
Jackson looked at me confused.
"Why is that's so funny, Grey?" he asked with a hurt expression on his face.
"Oh my God, you're serious." I said. He was freaking serious.
"I am. I can't stay here. I'm not my dad. I have no desire to be a Beta in this pack. I want to be free. " he answered.
"You're my best friend Grey, and I love you. I don't know when or how it happened but at some point I stopped loving you as a friend and started falling in love with you. And I know this is alot at one time and if you dont feel the same way, I understand. I know we aren't destined to be mates, but I think in time, you'll love me the way I love you, at least I hope you will. And if you don't, I'll accept that. I want you with me regardless."
I stood there for a minute in shock. I had never entertained the idea of loving Jackson more than my friend. I mean of course he was extraordinarily handsome, strong, funny, kind... everything I could ever hope for in a mate, but in no world would Jackson and I be together. I was an Omega and he would one day be the Beta of the pack.
I was grateful for his friendship. I never expected anything more. He was who he was and I am who I am, an Omega. In no world does a Beta and an Omega live happily ever after.
The idea of leaving pack lands had never occurred to me either. Of course I had dreamed about it, but that's all it was a dream, an unobtainable idea. If we left the pack we would marked as rouges and a bounty would be placed on our heads, and that would be if we even survived. More than likely we would be hunted down and killed before we got to far outside of the pack borders.
"Jackson , let's pretend we survive leaving. What then? Where would we go? No pack would take us in, and we can't run forever." I questioned.
"Once you pass over into the Northern Territories the rules change, Grey. The Alphas up there, they don't play by the same rules. They don't acknowledge wolves without a pack as rouges or deserters, they call them Wilds. The Wilds are a pack that aren't a pack. I know that doesnt make sense but, they stay off the others territories in exchange for freedom. They live how they want too, Grey. They're free."
As Jackson spoke I saw a star shoot across the sky behind him. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. It was almost like the Moon Goddess was giving me a sign.
"I'll go with you." I said interrupting him.
"I want to go with you."
Wow!!! Jackson and Grey are running away together to the North???
Will they make it? Do you think Grey can love him back? Are the Wilds really free?I've got so many questions!!!!
