Another wave of searing hot pain ran through my body.  I wasn't sure that Izzie was right, I felt like I was dying.

"Izzie I'm scared, I think something is really, really wrong, where is Jackson?" I asked as tears started to uncontrollably stream down my face.

"He left at day break to hunt.  I stayed behind because the air felt weird, now I know why.  It was my wolf sense telling me that you needed me here for your first shift!" she said with excitement lacing her voice.

Kill me now! Usually I just go along with Izzie's whole new "hippie wolf" vibe,  but not right now.  Why would fate put me alone, with Izzie, fir my first shift?

I could feel pressure building on the inside of my body,  pushing on my bones.  My stomach started to churn again.

"Izzie, I'm scared" I screamed out.

"It's okay, Grey.  The first time is the worst, but it's going to be ok." she said in a soothing voice as she walked over to me.

"You need to will your wolf forward, stop fighting it.  This is who you are, Grey.  You were designed for this."

Another blaze of fire shot through my body and this time it took over my mind.  My vision went blurry and my bones started to crack.  I let out a guttural scream as darkness took over me.

I dint know how long I was out.  Minutes? Hours? Days? I'd lost all concept of time.

"Grey, wake up. It's over." a soft voice cooed.

I opened my eyes, blinking several times to bring the world into focus. Suddenly I was upright standing on four legs.

How did I do that without trying?  I questioned to myself.

A soft laugh came from inside my mind.

"We did it, together! Hi, Grey. I am your wolf, Josephine. You can call me Joe.  I've waited a really long time to meet you."

"How does this all work?" I asked feeling discombobulated and a little anxious.

"We are a team, Grey.  You are still you and I am me, but together we are one.  It'll take some getting used too for both of us.  Let's go for a run, and maybe you'll understand a little better then."

"Run? I'm not even sure I can walk on four legs much less run." I said.

"Let me show you.  Imagine yourself stepping back into your mind, and then will me to come to the front."

This was way more complicated than I thought it was going to be, but I closed my eyes and imagined myself sitting down in the gar back of my mind.

Suddenly a jolt of energy and power surged through my body and mind.  Every nerve ending felt alive as adrenaline ran through me.

The trees passed in blurs of green as I watched out of eyes that weren't my own.  A feeling of completeness filled me and for the first time I felt whole.
