The dining room was rustic yet charmingly decorated, like everything else in Alpha Paul's home. The long oak dining table was intimately lit by candles. The large fireplace that sat off to the side gave off a warmth and a beautiful glow. A breath taking view of the mountains could be seen from the window that made up the back wall.

"Ah, dinner has arrived," Alpha Paul said with a loud laugh and a sharp grin. I wasn't sure if he was talking about me or the actual food. As a matter of fact, I didn't know how to take anything the Alpha said. His tone was always laced with a dab of sarcasm, it seemed, but the glint in his eye told of the beast inside of him.

"He is smuck." Joe offered up.

I laughed inside of my head in agreement.

The Alpha must have noticed my hesitation. "Come on, I'm joking. I'm not a bad guy, Grey. Please, have a seat." he said as he pulled out the chair to the left of his own.

I cautiously took my seat at the dinner table, noticing that while there were only four of us at the table, it had been set for five. I was curious as to who would be joining us, but figured it was better to mind my manners and not start interrogating the Alpha at his own dinner table.

Alpha Paul walked around to the other side of the table and pulled out the chair across from mine for Lexi, and then went back to his seat at the head of the table.

"I hope you like steak, Grey." he said, lifting an eyebrow as if he were asking a question.

"I've never had steak, Alpha Paul. The pack I am from only allows Omegas to eat what is left over from the meals that are cooked for the higher ranking wolves. But I am sure it will be lovely." I answered, trying to keep my tone pleasant.

"What? That's the problem with the Southern Packs. They think rank means something. Here, we earn our ranks. It's not bestowed on us because of a blood line. We work hard. We live hard. Everyone here in this pack is a valuable member, and they are treated as such." he boomed.

"Paul, don't start ranting. She isn't here to be lectured on pack politics, " Lexi said in her calming voice.

I found it odd that not only did Lexi address him as just Paul, but that he actually took her words in, and even apologized for his outburst. Who was Lexi to Alpha Paul? I made a mental note to ask Lexi once we were alone, but for now, I had more important questions.

"Why exactly am I here?" I asked plainly.

Alpha Paul and Lexi shared a look between one another.

"I'll make a deal with you. Enjoy your dinner, and while you do, I'll tell you everything. If you still have questions or you still doubt that I am telling you the truth, you can leave." the Alpha said.

"I agree with himþ. Let's eat. I'm starving. " Joe whipped.  " Maybe slide that steak knife under your leg just in case we need it later," she added.

"Deal." I said as I picked up the fork and began eating as I quickly slid the knife under my leg.

Joe was right.  I wouldn't want to miss an opportunity.

Just a quick filler chapter to bring us to the "meat" of the story. Alpha Paul is about to drop some truth on Grey that'll change everything in the next chapter. That chapter will be followed by Jackson's POV as he searches for Grey.
