LYNNETTE'S POV

I felt dazed as we tumbled into a clearing. Moaning softly,I rubbed my temples and tried to get rid of the throbbing headache I was experiencing.

Leila lay next to me, staring at the sky.
Her face was pale and she looked very tired. I also noticed the tears that pooled inside her eyes. But no sound came from her as the tears slid down her cheeks.
I knew she was devastated. I would have been too if my own mother fought against me so brutally.

I lay next to her and wrapped my arm around her. She shivered and started sobbing. I held her tighter, trying to comfort her but I had never been good with comforting people.
I just held her,my heart aching for my best friend who risked everything to protect me.

This was all my fault. If it wasn't for me,none of these would have happened and I felt an overwhelming hatred for myself at that moment.
I could have just given myself away and everyone would have been happy.
After all I had nothing to lose.
My mate had cheated on me,my foster mom was dead and my real parents were dead a long time ago.

The pain spread throughout my chest like wildfire and I gasped, clutching my chest.
"Lynn! Are you okay?" Leila's worried voice broke my chain of thought.
She grasped my hands tightly in her rough ones and tried to calm me down.

"You zoned out for 10 whole minutes and I was desperately trying to get your attention. All of this isn't your fault, trust me." She whispered soothingly.
" How did you know that was what I was thinking about?"
" You make a certain face when thinking about the things you blame yourself for and besides I have been your best friend for years" she smiled warmly.

My heart warmed at her words and I smiled at my best friend.
She smiled back sadly and plopped back onto the grass.
"What do you think made mother act this way? Does she not love me anymore?" She asked quietly and I didn't know what to say.

I didn't know what to say to her to comfort her and just looked at her sadly.
She gave a deep sigh and said "We have to open the book to find out where we need to go."
I handed over the book to her and she gripped it tightly .

Then in a soft and low voice, she began to hum a weird tune. The book vibrated in her hands as she continued to hum.
It left her hands and started levitating in the air as it flew open.
I felt a huge wave of magic surround me and goosebumps rose on my body.

I was mesmerised yet again about the magic flowing around us from the book.
Leila's humming stopped at once as soon as the book flipped open.
She then grabbed it and began to flip the pages for what we were looking for.

"This chapter talks about lycans and the lycan prophecy" she blurted when she found the page.
I hurried over to peer into the book.
But I couldn't see anything, all the pages were blank.
I glanced back up at her confused.

She giggled and said "To prevent other species from taking the valuable information and misusing it,only witches within the coven leader's bloodline can actually see what's written in this book"

I sighed,frustrated.
After some minutes of deep reading by Leila and sulking by me, Leila finally shut the book and turned to me happily.
"The book says the prophecy actually came from a seer that was rescued from torture and joined your pack long ago. Her name was Shaeniya. That's the good part of the news. The bad part is she disappeared a long time ago right after giving the prophecy and most people are now beginning to think she is just a myth. Some claim that there have been sightings of her at a cave high up in the mountains of gore. But that's all there is"

"Then we need to find her. She gave the prophecy so she must know what I should do in order to master my power and harness my abilities" I quickly answered.
Leila's face turned somber.
"The mountains of gore is a really dark and sacred place,I don't know why she chose that place of all places to stay and it's surrounded by a magic stripping spell made by an ancient witch. If I go near those mountains, I won't be able to use any of my abilities or cast any of my spells whilst there. It was originally called the sanctuary of seers but a lot of dark things happened there during the past years. So technically, only seers don't lose their power in there. Even werewolves may lose their ability to shift for the period of time that they peruse this place"

I was stunned and Crystal who had been quiet in the back of my head from the beginning of this journey suddenly perked up.
She understood perfectly what Leila said, she and I would lose all contact while in those mountains.
Something about magic seemed to make her weak because she laid back down at the back of my mind.

"But i need answers so i have no ther choice" i said to Leila.
She smiled sadly and said "i'm with you in this. The entrance to these mountains is called Porta sanguinea which means bloody gate. And it can be found in the Nirved wilderness. "

Just the name of the gate sent chills through me but this was important and I had to do it. I thought of Aaron in a brief second and of all the hurt that he had caused and wondered if he would ever miss me if I died.
But I had to do this no matter what and Leila and I had to stop Leila's mom.

"Let's go" I said with confidence as a new phase of our journey began.
