LEILA'S POV
My brain seemed to have stopped working, I didn't understand what mother was saying. What did she mean by she wanted Lynnette.
I glanced over to my friend while I was still hunched over in pain.Confusion flashed on her face and then fear and then determination. I wasn't actually sure where the determination came from because my mom was so powerful and could hurt us both very bad.
My mind went back to the days when I was still a very young witch-in-training.Even though I was sure mother loved me very much, she was ruthless when it came to my training. She would throw spells and fireballs at me without mercy and I would do my best to block them.
I remember i always cried during the very early stages but she comforted me and told me that as her daughter and a witch, I should persevere through the training and do my best and that that was the only way I would survive when she was gone.
At that time she had looked at me tenderly but this woman was looking at me with pure evil oozing out of her.
"Where is my mother and what have you done to her?" I croaked. She laughed out loud and replied in a chilling voice " I'm your mother darling. I'm no one other than the woman who gave you birth. But you see, I want your friend's power to make me even more powerful so I can rule all witches and all supernatural creatures including humans".
She started walking slowly toward Lynnette and fear flashed in Lynnette's eyes again.
"Don't worry, little one. I just need your blood. You know nothing of how powerful you are and of how to even use your power. Give it to me. I know how to use your power" she gave my best friend a sickly smile that made me want to puke.I quickly mumbled a pain relieving spell and cast it over my hurting body as I moved in between my mother and best friend.
"I will not let you hurt her" I sneared at my mother. It hurt that I might have to fight against her to protect my best friend but I had to do it.It was the duty of my bloodline and also duty and loyalty to my best friend. I took a deep breath and prepared myself to fight my mother, the only parent I had ever known since my father died a long time when I was still in her womb.
"Get out of my way child! I don't want to hurt you, I just want her" she snarled at me.
"No" I stood my ground firmly.
She gave a roar and charged toward both Lynnette and I.
I grabbed her and pulled Lynnette out of the way, making mother stumble and cast a quick protection spell on Lynnette . I knew it wasn't that much use against my mother but it would prevent her from getting hurt at least for sometime.Mother quickly regained her footing and swerved towards me. She hurled a fireball at me and I quickly recognized the spell she used. Water would be no good against this magical fireball . The secret was, it explodes once it comes into contact with water.
So I had to fight fire with fire.
I cast another fire spell which created a fire wall in front of me and the fireball just resolved when it touched my wall.
"Is that all you can do?"I smirked taunting her.
"That's just the beginning darling" she smiled that disgusting smile and started chanting with her eyes closed and her hands up in the sky. Some sticky black substance came out and formed thick long walls around me. She had trapped me in a maze. Oh no! Lynnette!
"Let's play a little game, why don't we darling? The one to get to your precious friend first, wins. On your marks, get set and go" her voice carried over the room in an eerie whisper.I couldn't risk Lynnette being caught and killed for mother's agenda, whatever it might be.
I started running through the maze but the funny thing was, I was running but going nowhere. The sticky walls had sticky hands which gripped my legs tightly.Mother was cheating but I had no time for those thoughts . I cast a wind spell but it didn't work,, in fact, it barely did anything.
Then I cast a fire spell but it didn't work either. I began to grow frustrated as I tried spell after spell and mother's snickers and teases carried over to me.I had to save my friend ASAP.
Then I remembered something from one of my ancient witchery books. If something was made out of darkness, you had to fight it with light and the sticky walls had this feeling of pure evil and darkness to them. But the problem was I failed the spell the first time I tried it.
Yet I needed it to save my best friend.I shut my eyes tightly and started chanting the words. But nothing happened. I tried again with tears rolling down my eyes but nothing happened either and that was when I recalled something I had been doing wrong.
To cast the light spell, I had to focus on all the pure good inside me and harness the power.
So I calmed myself down and started thinking about every warm feeling of goodness in me.
I could feel the sticky dark hands losing its hold and I started to think of more things and I could feel the light get brighter but I didn't not let go of my concentration. Then I started thinking of Lynnette and how much I loved her and would do anything to protect her and I could feel the hold loosening at once.
Without wasting time, I teleported myself, using the book that was with Lynnette as a compass. I reached her side just as mother got there. But I couldn't waste anymore time. I had to get Lynnette out of here. I quickly conjured up a portal that would lead us to the outside of the coven though I didn't know exactly where.
I cast it just in time as mother lunged for us and I pulled Lynnette into the portal as darkness enveloped us.
