(This is an oc short story based around the song "Me and My Husband" by Mitski, specifically the part that goes "And I am the idiot with a painted face, in the corner taking up space. but when he walks in, I am loved, I am loved" enjoy!)

Soft music played around the rather extravagant ballroom. Couples danced slowly to the enchanting song, it was almost as if the whole room was entranced under its spell.

all except one person.

she held a glass of champagne, boredly and anxiously waiting for someone. she sipped from her glass and grimaced, not expecting her date to show up.

Hours passed as she sat in the corner of the room, she felt as if she was taking up space by waiting for her love. she hated the feeling of watching the clock slowly tick, watching as people came in and soon began to fizzle out.

a frown was on her face, her painted face. she had been prepared to look her best with makeup and an expensive gown. but, nobody had shown up. before the last groups of people left she drained the rest of her champagne and headed for the exit.

just then, a man walked in. She looked over with a glint of hope and was shocked to see her friend. Why's he here? Confused, she walked over to him. "Pluo? why are you here?" he looked at her with his signature stoic gaze, "Your date ditched you correct? I figured some company may be nice." She was surprised, but... happy. she smiled softly,

"Thank you Pluo."
