Nandini sat by her dresser, brushing her hair, but her eyes were lost. When she woke up in the morning, something didn't feel right. It was one of those days that felt like a game changer. She felt anxious. She remembered, the last time she felt such agitation, was the day she bumped into Manik and his crew during her visit to Mumbai for the conference. Honestly, she couldn't shake off this uneasy feeling now, knowing what this feeling led to last time. The last time in a matter of a few hours her carefully crafted new life away from Manik Malhotra, was crumpled and thrown out of the window, before she knew it. Now, what was about to happen?
Then again, there was that other thing that bugged her too. That strange dreamish feeling she had last night, where she felt..err..she felt like Manik had kissed her..well it wasn't a kiss actually, more like a gentle peck on her forehead. Damn it, she was losing her mind again. Gentle pecks on the forehead are what lovers share, and whatever she & Manik shared in his vanity van, the day before, it was anything but love! No! It must have been a dream, it couldn't possibly be real for heaven's sake; Nandini chidded herself.
She was looking at him, as he slowly walked towards her; his gait controlled, his eyes ablaze, his breath slow. He was eyeing her like a predator and although under normal circumstances, his demeanour would frighten Nandini, today she felt thrilled and excited. Maybe that was because, ever since she realised she fell in love with Manik, she knew he'd never look at her this way? There was definitely desire there in his eyes, and as he approached her, his breath mingled with her, tantalising her with the mix of his cologne and expensive alcohol. He was drunk. No wonder, he found her attractive, she told herself. Yes, that was more believable. A sober Manik Malhotra would never look at her.
"Hold me" he commanded, as he reached up to her so close that their noses gently collided with each other. Even drunk, Manik Malhotra reeked of authority & resilience.
"Manik.." Nandini murmured huskily, as her shaking hands gently touched his broad chest.
"Where are your nails, kitten?" he asked, raspily & moulded his hands over hers, on his chest, guiding her to unbutton his shirt. "You know how much I love it when you scratch my chest with your nails? It's a sexy piece of art I like to wear, baby.." he whispered sensually; his lips were dangerously close to her ears, and his voice velvety smooth. Nandini squirmed in his hold and was about to push open his shirt and claw him, when something hit her.
Manik liked her clawing his chest? When did she ever do this to him? Was he..was he drunk enough to mistake her for someone else? It broke her heart to think of the irony of her life. The only time her husband ever behaved like one with her, was when under the influence of alcohol and maybe even substance, he thought she was not her, but one of his many lovers.
"Come on, baby.." Manik murmured now, bringing his lips very close to hers. His hands were now slowly moving from her hands, towards her face; with one hand he cupped her jaws and the other one dived to grab the small of her back, as he pulled her more into him.
"I'm not her, Manik.." Nandini whispered, as she choked on her own tears and tried pulling herself out of this sensually arousing, yet heart wrenchingly dark reality of hers. She didn't know who Manik assumed she was, under the influence of so much alcohol and drugs, but she was sure he wasn't thinking of her. She was merely meat for him. A piece of meat that could take the place of any beautiful woman in Manik's life. Any muse he wanted..her heart broke again, so did her faith & this time it took her spirit with her too.
