"Nandu, Nandu wake up. There's something wrong! You have to see this!" Navya's frantic voice abruptly broke her slumber, as Nandini slowly opened her eyes and registered the commotion around her. They had returned from London the night before and on their way out of the airport Nandini had her first brush with the tornado that was to unfurl upon her life.
The media.
There were shutterbugs everywhere and for the life of her, she didn't know how to hide her face, because there were cameras flashing everywhere! The blinding flashes were hurting her eyes, and it was only when Manik pulled her close to his chest and Cabir covered her from the other side, that she could take a breath! There were questions flying from all directions, and each one stabbed her more than she thought it could.
"Manik sir, Nandini maám, what went wrong? How did you miscarry?"
"Nandini maám, how do you feel about losing your baby?"
"Manik sir, are you upset or disappointed?"
"Nandini maám, what does it feel like to lose your bodyguard & your child within a span of a week? Do you feel Manik sir should have taken better care of you?"
"Manik sir, will you be planning a family soon again, or will you both take time now?"
"No comments" was all she heard Manik respond in a stiff voice, glaring at the press, before hopping onto the car following Nandini, once they reached it.
"Guys, this is a sensitive moment for Manik & Nandini, please respect their privacy. Come on, guys. We will release a statement soon, until then, please give them some space." Nandini heard Cabir, giving a short byte to the press, before jumping into the car himself.
Nandini was sitting in the car, as they drove off. She didn't know she was shivering. All the questions the press threw at her, shook her to the core. Her time with Manik in London was peaceful, and it felt like suddenly the veil had lifted, and they were back in the same chaos they had run away from after Abhimanyu's demise.
"Nandini, are you okay? Please hold on for a bit, we will reach home soon. We will release the statement tomorrow, and it won't be so bad after that. Okay?" she was jolted back to reality, hearing Manik's words. She barely nodded, when she was interrupted by Cabir.
"Manik, I'm afraid it is not going to be that easy. Zubin just texted, informing, there is a sea of press outside your penthouse too. It will take us at least fifteen minutes to cross them and enter. Will she be able to handle more nasty questions and flashes?" Cabir, asked, sounding concerned.
Manik glanced at Nandini and figured it was too much for her, and the last thing he wanted was for her to untether. She was barely managing to handle the fake pregnancy trauma at an emotional level; the last thing she needed were intrusive questions on her sore spot. He gravely turned to Cabir and said, "Do you know where Navya stays?"
Cabir frowned when he looked at him first, but nodded as he understood what Manik meant. So, soon Nandini was taken to Navya's and it was decided, she'd stay here with her, away from the eyes of the press, while Manik & Zubin handled the press & released the statement the next day.
