6.5 Months Later:
"I miss you like tons baby." You smile at the phrase; those were the things keeping you going since you were left by yourself. You rub your swollen stomach in soft circles as you continue to smile.
"Won't be long Luke. You're coming home, right?"
"I'm running to the car as we speak."
"I still think a six hour flight is too long, especially with the weather where you are." At that very moment, you voice falls short as a sharp pain radiates from your stomach. You grit your teeth and try to conceal the scream that wants to escape. Your eyes fall to your stomach and the realization hits you. Oh No. Not now. No. "I need you home right now." You say sternly and as calm as possible as you clutch onto your stomach.
"I know baby, but I'll be there soon."
"No! I need you right now!" You cry out, gathering enough strength to stand from your couch.
"Vanessa, what's wrong?" Luke asks, concern pouring from his voice. You clutch your stomach painfully and, as quickly as you can, run to the garage of your shared home.
"Luke, I'm having the baby." You yell frantically. "It's happening." Luke strings together a whole bunch of curse words loudly. There's a bit of annoyance in his words, though they're not directed towards you.
"Just get to the hospital. Baby, can you do that?"
"I think so." You say, tears building in your eyes. "Please get here."
"I'll be there as soon as possible, I promise."
4 Hours Later:
"I can't do this without you." You cry out as you squeeze onto the phone. The doctor sits down between your legs, saddened look on her face. She could feel the emotional pain going through you right now, as well as imagine the physical pain you were experiencing.
The fears of possibly doing this alone had been eating at your for months, and now those nightmares were coming true. He wasn't going to be here for this, he was going to miss this.
"You can baby, I believe in you."
"I need you here Luke." You hear Luke taking several deep breaths, and by the labored-ness you can tell he's fighting back tears.
"I know, I'm sorry. Just focus on my voice okay."
"Vanessa, we have to do this." The doctor says, with a sense of importance before you. You nod your head and allow the tears to free-fall. The nurse takes the phone from you and puts it on speaker so that you could hear Luke's voice without having to hold onto the device. "I'm gonna need a big push, honey. Push!" The doctor says. You push as hard as you possibly can, the pain being just unbearable enough that you're moaning and groaning out in pain.
"You can do this." Luke says though the phone. When your eyes are closed it's just like he's there with you. The tears drip down your sweaty cheeks in emotional and psychological pain. "Vanessa I love you, baby, you got this." You nod your head as if he can see you. When you open your eyes the doctor looks up at you and silently prepares for you to push again.
Fifteen pushes later you feel the large pressure between your legs lessen and a small cry erupts. You let your head fall back against the pillow as tears cascade down your flushed cheeks.
"Oh my God!" You let out through sobs.
"Congratulations, you have a son." The doctor says after she cuts the umbilical cord and places the small crying child against your bare chest. She has the nurse cover your top to keep the baby and you warm.
"Luke, we have a son." You cry out. From the other line you hear crying erupt, uncontrollable crying. "We have a boy."
~~~
Sounds begin to fill your ears after what seems like a lifetime of slumber. You don't know how long you've been asleep, but it couldn't be more than a couple hours. A soft coo of your child is heard, but doesn't register quite yet; you're only a mom of a couple hours so it hasn't kicked in yet. The coo is followed by a low musical humming, the kind that was used to aid in your sleep before.
You stir awake, allowing your eyes to adjust to the very dim lighting in the room. You move your head to your side to see a picture perfect view. Luke sits in the recliner near your bed, with your bundle of joy in his arms. He's humming and rocking him lightly. Then you spot the rest of the crew, passed out on various surfaces in the room.
Calum is knocked out on the couch by the foot of your bed. Michael is asleep on the floor with his coat balled up underneath his head. And Ashton is sitting up across from Luke, taking pictures of Luke and your son while sipping on some coffee.
You watch as Luke brings his hand up and brushes the skin on your son's forehead. A smile comes to Luke's lips before he's pressing them against his little forehead.
"Hey buddy," Luke says in his deep voice, "I'm your dad." At this moment your heart just melts at the sight. Luke was going to be a great dad, and there was no doubt about it.
"Look who's awake." Ashton says, with a soft smile. Luke's head quickly cranes over to you and a large smile builds on his lips. Luke immediately hands your child over to the other child in the room, A.K.A. Ashton, and comes over to your side.
"Hey Vanessa." He says in a low voice as he brushes your messy hair our of your face. "Sorry I woke you." You shake your head and reach up, grabbing his large hand in yours.
"You didn't." Luke leans down and presses his lips to yours.
"You did an amazing job, baby." Luke mutters as both of your eyes gather on your son, whose falling asleep in Ashton's arms while Ashton takes a selfie of him and the child.
"I think we did an amazing job." You whisper. Luke smiles yet again and presses his lips to the side of your head.
"Fuck yeah we did." You slap your hand on Luke's chest as hard as you possibly could in your exhausted state.
"No swearing in front of the baby." Luke laughs and shakes his head.
"See, already a great mom."
