Y/N's Pov:
It was now 6, I had gotten ready to meet our new neighbors! I was excited yet a bit nervous. Sherri seemed like a very sweet girl I hope that we might even go to the same school. I had washed my hair before, and curled it, and but on some blush, mascara, and a light tint of pink lipstick. I rummaged through my closet looking for something simple yet presentable. I decided to go for a soft long sleeve pink shirt, a white skirt, and white slip on shoes."Y/N sweetheart! are you done?" My mom hollered, from the bottom of the stairs. "Yes, coming!" I shouted, making my way down to the bottom of the stairs. "How do I look?" My dad asked my mom, attempting to fix his tie, "Charming." My mom said, fixing his tie for him and then placing a peck on his cheek. "Uh..." I said, awkwardly standing there as if they had forgot I was there. We all started giggling and then for 5 seconds we all stood there in silence. "Whos hungry? I am lets Start heading out." Dad said, as he turned the door knob and stepped out. "You always are." Mom muttered, "And what's that supposed to me?" Dad asked, raising a eyebrow, "Oh nothing." Mom said stepping out to as I followed snickering.
The walk was not even a minute since we both lived so close next to each other. Dad fixed his tie as mom patted down her dress as I knocked on the door and before I knew it a woman that resembled Cherry opened the door. She was a pretty tall thin woman, who had short red wavy hair, brown eyes, a few wrinkles around her mouth that you could tell she got from smiling and laughing a lot, 2 pearl bracelets on her left hand, and a black dress with white polka-dots placed neatly everywhere. "You must be Mr and Mrs. L/N." The woman said, shaking both of their hands. "That's us!" Dad said, as he shook her hand. "Ms.Valance." the woman said, pulling out a pearly white smile. "This is our daughter Y/N." My mom said, referring to me, I put out my hand to shake Ms.Valance's hand. "Nice to meet you Ms.Valance!" Ms.Valance gladly took my hand into hers and shook it. "It's lovely to meet you Y/N," the woman said smiling. "Please all of you come inside!" Ms.Valance moved to the side as we all walked in, once we were all in she closed the door behind us letting one last light breeze of cold air make its way in.
Ms.Valance made her way towards the stairs as she stepped ontonthe first step. "Oh Sherri dear, Y/N and Mr. and Mrs. L/N are here!" She called, up stairs. "Coming mom!" a voice from upstairs called down, as I took in the scent of inside my nose was filled with the fresh smell of cheese and pasta. "Mmmmmhm! Smells delicious!" I announced, "I'm glad! Please have a seat." Ms. Valance suggested, as she lead us to the kitchen table. I heard footsteps from above slowly making their way down as I looked towards the staircase I saw Sherri making her way down. "Hi Mr. and Ms. L/N!" Sherri said, as she waved to them and made her way to the table sitting down next to me. "Hi dear it's lovely to see you again." My mom said, flashing one of her movie star smiles as my dad smiled and nodded. "You must be Y/N right?" Sherri said, turning to me as her brown eyes looked into mine. "Yup!" I said, smiling from ear to ear. "I almost forgot!" Ms.Valance
admitted, as she stood up from her chair and went towards the kitchen. She brought three plates of pasta and melted cheese on top out and placed it in front of my mom, dad, and I. "I hope you all enjoy the pasta! It's something new I've been trying." She quickly went back to the kitchen and brought two more plates out for Sherri and her. "Thank you!" Sherri, my mom, dad, and I, all chimed in, at the same time.We all said Grace and then began to eat.
"Thank you so much Ms.Valance for inviting us over again for dinner, that was so sweet of you!" My mom said, as she sipped the glass of water next to her. "Of course, don't mention it! Please call me Carol." Mrs.Valance said smiling, me and Sherri were eating our pasta in silence I was honestly hoping she would start up a conversation because at that moment I was not sure what to talk about. "So Y/N, do you know what school you're going to be going to?" questioned Sherri, I eased up at her voice. "Will Roger's high-school!" I exclaimed, taking 2 mouth fulls of pasta.
"What a miracle Sherri goes to Will Roger's too!" Ms.Valance said, as her eyes softened as she put her hand to her heart. I looked at Sherri my eyes sparking with excitement, "Really?" "Yes!" Sherri said, as she smiled from ear to ear."My friend Marcia and I can show you around and hopefully we have some classes together!" Sherri said, "I would love that, thanks!" I exclaimed, as Sherri pushed a piece of her red shiny hair behind her shoulder as she took another bite of her food. The rest of the night was spent with My dad, Mom, and Ms.Valance sharing stories about their high-school memories. "I've got so much to tell you about!" Sherri said, eagerly. "I'm all ears!" I responded, "Well first off there's this boy..." "OoooH~" I said, as I dragged the ooh out. "Well he's my boyfriend.." "OOOOOOHHHH~" I said, as I dragged out the ooh longer than before. "But I'm not sure how I feel about him." "Oh no, why?" "His name is Bob, Bob Sheldon. He's a really sweet guy, but..." "But...?" I questioned, "Him and his friends they stay out all night getting drunk on booze, he promises me he'll stop but I don't really belive that anymore. "I'm sorry to hear that Sherri, I really am." I said, as a frown crawled onto my face. I watched as sherri looked down and picked at her food. I thought for a second. "Sometimes people think about themselves and only them and don't realize how they may be affecting others." She looked up at me as she gave me a small smile, I could tell how much he has hurt her without even really realizing it. "I think you're right." She said, "I just Pray and hope that one day maybe he'll change."
"That's all you can do Sherri" "Bob has to make that change, that's not in any of your control." "Whether he does or doesn't, don't feel like its your job to watch him, he's your boyfriend it should be the opposite." I could see Sherri's face lighten up, "I have a feeling we're gonna be really good friends Y/N."
"You think so?" "I know so." She said, as she smiled her green eyes glowing with hope. "But besides boys, you're gonna need a 101 guide on how to survive Will Roger's." I nodded, "And that's what I've picked up on from staying here." "Wow that's a lot to learn." "It is but once you get the hang of it, it's basically your everyday rules and routine." Sherri said, as she sipped her water. "Hey Sherri?" "Yeah Y/N?" "How will I know my schedule, and gets my books, and P.E clothes?" I wondered, now that I had really thought about it. "Don't worry about that, all new students go to the office in the front of the school and you just tell them your name and grade and they will have everything ready for you." I sighed in relief, "I'm glad." My eyes went directly to her beautiful red hair. "You're hairs lovely." I said, outloud without even realizing it, Sherri sat down her glass; "Thanks my friends call me Cherry because of my red hair." "I like that name, Cherry." "Sherri?" "Yes Y/N?" "Can I call you cherry?" "Of course you can!" "You're my friend afterall." Being called Cherrys friend made me feel like I hadn't left my friends back at home but instead they were brought back to me in Tulsa. My new home. The rest of the night was filled with excitement, laughter, and stories. Cherry and I exchanged our favorite teen beach movies, talked about our hobbies. I explained to Cherry what it was like back at home and told her all about my friends and how school was there. Cherry was a very good listener, she would actually listen to you instead of letting the words you told her fly out one of her ear to the other. My mom, dad, and Ms.Valance shared to Ms.Valance why we had came out to Tulsa in the first place.
