KXILYÄ COULD HEAR the steps of Neteyam, Neytiri and Jake behind her. Kxilyä had very good hearing, and she could tell no one had noticed their steps.
' Let them go. ' She repeated, stepping closer towards Quaritch and Lo'ak. She heard Neytiri's bow sling.
Her eyes trailed behind them, watching as Jake pulled one of the avatars into the bushes, in silence.
Neteyam was ready in the shadows of the bushes, a gun aimed at the other avatar.
' Now. ' Jake spoke into the comms, as Neytiri's arrow flew into the head of one of the avatars. Neteyam shot the gun, multiple bullets landing into their chest.
Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk bit into their captors arms, as they all let out cries in pain, releasing them. Kxilyä turned, releasing her arrow as it landed into the female avatars abdomen, and they fell to the ground.
She turned towards Quaritch. He was leaned down, hiding behind a tree. His gaze was stared onto Neytiri's arrow, his eyes filled with panic for a split second.
She stared, but her gaze was cut off by Lo'ak dragging her shoulder. ' Come on, let's go! ' He called, and she staggered behind with him.
The two ran into the darkness, climbing up a tree. He opened his mouth to speak, but she grasped her hand on his mouth to shut him up.
Quaritchs confidence had seem to have gone up. ' Why don't you come out here, Mrs. Sully? ' He called out. Kxilyä looked up to Neytiri's shadow, leaning against the tree.
' Demon! ' She yelled out, her voice unknown. Chills ran down her spine. ' I will kill you as many times as I have to! '
' Go ahead. I'll just be coming back. ' Quaritch called. Kxilyä raised her bow, looking to Neytiri for confirmation as she nodded her head. She slung her bow, her fingers tight as she aimed the arrow.
She tightened her fingers, about to release, before-
A wood sprite floated towards her, landing on her arrow. Her eyebrows furrowed. She watched as the woodsprite floated off, and she lowered her bow.
' What are you doing? ' Neytiri asked in the comms. She was at a loss for words.
What could Quaritch possibly be in the future?
' Shoot your arrow, Kxilyä! ' Jake called in the comms, his voice demanding.
She hesitantly pressed her fingers onto the microphone, enabling it. ' I cant do it. ' She lied.
How could she tell them about the sign from Eywa?
She peered to Lo'ak, who stared with his eyebrows furrowed. Kxilyä rested her hands off of the comms, grasping Lo'aks hand in hers.
' We tell nobody. ' She whispered. ' They don't need to know. '
He hesitated, before nodded slightly. He stepped closer, squeezing her hand. ' But when do we tell them? '
' When the time is right. ' She spoke more clearly, grounding herself. ' Just.. not now. '
' Okay. ' He sighed, ' Okay. '
' Kxilyä, Lo'ak, where are you? ' Neteyam asked in the comms, ' We're leaving. '
' Spider is gone! ' Kiri gasped, ' They took him! '
Lo'ak looked back to Kxilyä, his eyes filled with panic. ' What do you mean he's gone? They just left and took him? ' Lo'ak spoke sternly into the mic.
' Yes! We lost eachother while running away, and he fell down, and then they just.. took him and dissapeared! ' Kiri cried, ' We have to get him back! '
' No, Kiri, not now. We have to get home first and fix a plan. We can't go into their base without a plan. Spider is strong, and he'll be okay. ' Lo'ak ushered Kxilyä down the tree, as they climbed from branch to branch before landing on the soft ground.
Kiri groaned in frustration into the mic, but it cut off as she began to speak to somebody.
' Where are you all? ' Jake asked, as she lifted her hand towards her neck.
' Just leaving the area now. Neytiri is here with us, ' Kxilyä looked up, but she wasn't able to find her shadow, ' Or was with us. '
' I left to find Kiri. ' Neytiri confirmed, ' Meet us at Hometree, we'll see you there. '
' Okay. ' Kxilyä spoke, resting her hand down. ' Let's go then. '
When they had reached Hometree, she found her leg had begun to hurt at every step again. As she jumped down from the branch, landing on the hard surface, she winced from the sharp pain that travelled through her body.
' Are you okay? ' Lo'ak questioned, holding her up by her elbow.
' I'm fine. ' She gave a brief smile, adjusting her weight on her other leg.
' Are you sure? Because if your leg is hurting again- ' He begun, stepping in-front of her, but she waved her hand.
' I'm okay! You don't have to worry about me anymore. I'm not being shackled to a bed again. ' Kxilyä cut him off, walking forward towards their family's hut.
Before she could step into the door, Kiri grasped her arm, making her jump. She pulled her to the side, to see Neteyam, Kiri, and Tuk waiting by the walls.
' This is our home! ' Neytiri's voice bellowed from inside the tent. ' How could we leave? You are Olo'eyktan. You are Toruk Makto! '
' I know. I know. But they had our kids, Neytiri. ' Jake's voice broke as he spoke. She exchanged glances with Kiri.
They crouched down, watching through the cracks at the bottom of the hut. Neytiri turned, picking up her fathers bow.
' My father told me to protect my people while he lay dying. I will not leave them! ' Neytiri cried.
' By leaving we will protect them. The sky people came for me, and by staying here we are endangering our clan. ' Jake placed his arms on her shoulders, squeezing slightly in a attempt to reassure her. ' I may not be able to protect our people, but I can protect this family. That, I can do. '
Neytiri stood, staring as tears streamed down her face.
' What I know, is that wherever we go, this family is our fortress. '
