PRESENT DAY

' LO'AK? LO'AK WAKE up! ' Kxilyä called, as he groaned when she shook his shoulder. ' Cmon! ' She whisper-yelled.

Her legs were straddled against Lo'ak's as they hung in the hammock.

He looked out into the sky, which was pitch black. ' What time is it? ' He whined, rubbing his eyes as his reality settled in. His gaze was now centred onto Kxi, sitting on his lap as he raised his eyebrows.

' Late. Wanna sneak out? ' She smiled, as he stuttered on his words.

' To where? ' He managed, before peering at Jake and Neytiri to see if they woke up.

' Uh.. I didnt figure that one out. ' She shrugged. Lo'ak rolled his eyes. ' I just knew I wanted to spend time with you. '

He felt his heart stutter at her words, before simply nodding, unable to do anything else.

' Cmon lets go! ' She shook his shoulders again, before jumping out of the hammock. Lo'ak let out a sigh of relief. 

He nodded, as they ran out into the woods. Rain pattered against her skin, as she jumped onto the log and ran ontop of it. The log wobbled in the river, but she remained still, jumping onto the land as she turned her head to see where Lo'ak was.

He wobbled on the log, taking a hesitant step forward before the log spun and he fell into the water. Kxilyä laughed, watching as he slowly surfaced from the water with a deadpan expression.

' And you call me clumsy. ' She amused, as he rolled his eyes.

' Haha. You're so funny Kxi. ' He said in a numb voice, as he stepped up and onto land. Water was sprayed against his skin, as his hair was soaking wet and heavy. She laughed once more at him.

' I know. I'm very funny. ' She mused, smiling. ' Now come on. ' She grabbed his hand, leading him through the forest.

They jumped from branch to branch, from grass to rock and from water to land, until they reached the top of Pandora. She let calls out of her mouth, as a orange-yellow Ikran came from the trees. She smiled as the Ikran noticed the two on the mountain, and landed in front of her. She stroked her hand along his back, as the Ikran cooed.

Lo'ak did the same, as his Ikran flew up beside them. Kxilyä slid onto the back of her Ikran, connecting their queues as she settled in. She took in a deep breath, enjoying the bond.

As they flew up, the wind whipped her hair to the side, the breeze cold against her skin. She let out a cry to Lo'ak, as he returned it and followed behind. They soared through Pandora, as she glided her hand along the water before splashing Lo'ak and his Ikran with the water.

He gave her a look, before sending a wave of water towards her. She gave him a shocked look, before bursting into laughter as they flew up. They flew through the hallelujah mountains, dodging rocks as the ventured through the night sky.

She loves moments like these. Moments where she felt free, and she felt connected on another level to her surroundings. She let out a cry towards Lo'ak, nodding her head towards one of the mountains as he returned it and they landed on the rough surface.

She slipped off her Ikran, and the Ikran flew off into the night. Her legs dangled off the edge, as she sucked in a breath at the view. You could see Hometree from here, buzzing with light. You could see the beautiful land of Pandora, and you could hear the sounds of night.

Lo'ak sat down beside her, his legs dangling the same way. She looked over to him, giving him a brief smile. She let her eyes wander once again, inspecting the night sky.

' Hey, look. ' She pointed to the connection of stars, to which we call lor atan, meaning beautiful light. It's always been something Kxilyä felt connected to, and she truly believes it's something her mother had sent her.

That certain light appeared a couple days after my mothers passing 13 years ago. It appears only at a certain time at night. Lo'ak smiled, leaning back against his hands.

' I guess it was the perfect time to go. ' He said softly. Kxi nodded in agreement.

' I like these. These times where we can just.. sneak off and do whatever. ' She smiled.

' Yeah? ' He said in a raspy voice.

' Yeah. It's nice. ' She sighed, before falling back against the rock. She shuddered at the coldness of the rock, but settled. Lo'ak did the same.

They spent the night pointing out stars, and naming them. Kxi and Lo'ak both had a special interest in stars, and knew how to name almost all of them. They only noticed the time as the stars slowly evaporated, and turned into a beautiful yellow light.

' Shit, what time is it? ' She finally sat up to see the sunset peek over the horizon. ' Oh no. ' She groaned, as she stood up and called her Ikran.

' Damn, we lost track of time fast. ' He laughed, as he called his Ikran aswell.

They rode as fast as they could back to Hometree, letting go of their Ikran after they had landed on the platform. As they walked back towards the center, they had hoped no one had woken up yet, but they found Jake and Neytiri's knowing glare as they turned the corner.

She closed her eyes, sighing as they walked towards the platform.

' Really? ' Was all Jake said. ' It's like no matter what we tell you, you decide to rebel against it. '

' Look, we didn't expect- ' Lo'ak protested, but Neytiri hissed at him. He pinned his ears to the side of his head, shutting up as his tail lashed behind him.

' It's not his fault. I convinced him to. ' Kxilyä stood up. ' If you're going to punish anyone for this, punish me. '

' It's not just your fault, Kxilyä. Lo'ak agreed to it. And so, you two are banned from flying for a month. No riding your Ikran until you can learn the consequences. '

Panic filled in her chest. ' But- ' She begun to protest, but Neytiri only cut her off.

' It's decided. Go help your grandmother, Lo'ak, and Kxilyä go help cook. ' Neytiri demanded, as Lo'ak rolled his eyes and walked off. Kxilyä mumbled, but walked over to the 'kitchen' grudgingly.

Maybe they shouldn't have snuck out.
