Fay'tari continued to walk away with Neteyam tailing her, her mind attempting to calm itself and gather its thoughts neatly.
"I get it if you're mad, Fay-" Neteyam piped up.
"I'm not mad!" Fay'tari snapped at him, only angling her head sideways slightly instead of coming to a complete stop.
"Well, you're obviously not happy, are you?" He makes a good point, that time causing Fay'tari to come to a standstill.
"I wonder why that is." She remarks, slowly turning to face the boy who looked rather tired, even though it was only the morning.
"I said I was sorry." He started, speaking in a straightforward manner. "Besides, it's not like either of you fought the whole time, right?"
"And how would you know that?" She grew suspicious of him, asking herself whether he'd planted spies or something similar to catch the two of them.
"Because if you had, at least one of you would have some sort of scratch on you. I already checked Lo'ak, and he's fine." Neteyam cleverly concludes, making Fay'tari lift her nose at him in defeat, thinking his problem-solving was rather impressive but not wanting to admit it.
"Who's to say we didn't fight verbally?" She tried, though Neteyam didn't look convinced.
He shot her an "as if" look, moving on from responding to her as both of them could tell there was no point arguing about the statement with the answer being too obvious.
"I don't want to know the details of what happened, I just want to know if you think it was worth it." He admitted, looking a lot more sympathetic and approachable.
"Worth it? What do you mean, worth it? Worth my time, my sanity? In that case, no. It wasn't." She jumped ahead, misinterpreting his meaning.
He shook his head, "No, I mean... Do you think you've made progress?"
Fay'tari seemed stunned. "Progress?! No! What-"
"I won't tell, I swear it. You're supposed to be a pair, I'm just trying to make you both more comfortable." He explains, all the while with Fay'tari staring daggers at him.
She inched forward, her eyes calamitous. "Stop trying." She spoke in a low tone, starting to walk away from him after doing so.
"You can't avoid it, Fay! It's going to happen, just accept—"
"No. It won't. I can avoid it, and I will. Stop wasting your time!" She got louder, poking Neteyam in the centre of his chest as he looked at her with concern.
He couldn't tell her that he knew how exactly she planned on avoiding it, but he desperately wanted to. He knew it would most probably get his little brother killed if he did.
"Why are you running away?" He merely asks, his tone not nearly as sharp as it should've been. She wasn't moving when he asked it, making her realise that he meant "running away" in a different kind of context.
"I'm not running away." She sternly says, watching Neteyam closely.
She was much more concentrated thereafter, her mind had somehow restored itself and was properly thinking; Mainly, about how she was going to fool Neteyam.
"Sure you are; You're avoiding this pairing as if it'll kill you if it happens. Scared?"
Neteyam knew exactly what he was doing by saying that, his words were perfectly crafted to catch her out.
