After getting dressed in your dorm, you go down to the cafeteria with your friends. They attempt to pry about your life on the walk over, but you make sure not to say anything until you've all got your food and you're sitting down at a private table in the corner of one of the dining rooms.
"So can you please tell us now?" Kenji sighs as he sits down across from you. "I'm literally going to die if I don't know the details soon."
"Uh, well, I was talking to this frat guy when Kuroo accidentally knocked my drink all over me," you begin.
"Yeah, accidentally on purpose," Phoebe giggles.
"No, it really was an accident," you roll your eyes. "I literally saw it happen."
"Mhm," Kenji smirks. "Okay, so what happened after?"
"I went to the bathroom and got cleaned up... and Kuroo came with me," you continue to explain.
"And then you boned, right?" Phoebe grins.
"Ugh, seriously, Pheebs? We're eating in case you forgot," you shake your head at her. "It wasn't like that. And besides, he totally saved me from that jerk. Kuroo told me they spiked the drinks with something."
"Duh," Phoebe rolls her eyes. "That's what they always do at parties."
"You knew that?!" you reply.
"You didn't?" she chuckles.
"Uh, no. Thankfully, Kuroo told me though!"
"What're you trying to say?" she asks with narrowing eyes.
"That I'm happy he was around before I got drugged... or worse!" you try to tell her without shouting.
"Well, I'm sorry for not being a mind reader, Y/N!"
"Pheebs, calm down," Kenji tells her as he touches her shoulder gently. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I just don't get why Y/N's hoping from Bokuto to Kuroo like she's switching subway cars."
"Are you serious right now?" you scoff. "You're the one who told me to go for it with Kuroo!"
"Didn't know you'd hop on his dick the second he showed up. I hope you're not using him as a rebound," Phoebe says.
"Are you really the one lecturing me about how fast I hop from-" you begin before getting distracted when your eyes catch on Kuroo, Akaashi, and Kenma walking by. "Look, I'm not claiming it's anything serious with him. We're just friends like we've always been but now it's got added... benefits."
"Well good luck with that," Kenji smiles. "He's too cute to keep as a side piece forever."
"How about you and Akaashi then?" you change the subject. "How's it goin' with him?"
"God, I don't know," he sighs. "I asked him to study with me tomorrow night but I don't know if he'll actually show up or not."
"Well good luck with that," you smirk before looking back over at Phoebe who's now pushing her food around her plate. "You sure you're alright, Phoebe."
"I'm just hungover, that's all," she shrugs. "I'm going to go lay down for a bit."
You and Kenji watch as Phoebe cleans up her plate and picks up her backpack, slinging it over her shoulder. "See you guys later," she smiles softly before walking off.
"What's up with that?" Kenji then asks.
"I was just about to ask you the same thing," you hum as you watch her walk out the door. "Is it me? Or Kuroo?"
"If I'm being honest, it might be," he shrugs. "Or maybe she's just got a lot of stress right now."
"Alright," you sigh, "Well, I'm going to head to my class now then. See you later?"
"Are you free for dinner?" he asks.
"I'm going to go see if Bokuto needs any help with the diner tonight but I can let you know later if I haven't turned into a zombie by then," you grin.
"Okay, have fun," he waves as you clean up your things. "Bye, Y/N."
"Bye, Kenj," you wave back.
After leaving the dining hall, you begin to make your way toward class. However, just as you walk outside, you hear Kuroo calling your name. When you turn back to the direction where you just came, you see Kuroo running after you.
"Hey, what's up?" you ask as he stops beside you.
"I was just wondering if you were busy tonight. Maybe we could meet up for dinner?" he replies.
"Actually, I was going to check on Bokuto at the diner but going with you would be a pretty good cover," you smile.
"Oh, are you working?"
"No," you shake your head. "He never said anything about the job which is why I wanted to go. I hope he's doing alright. I know he's putting a lot of pressure on himself."
"Then I'll go with you... as long as you don't mind," he offers. "I'll even give you a ride."
"That'd be great, Kuroo. Thank you," you smile.
"No problem," he then shrugs. "Can I walk you to your class?"
"That would be great."
Together, you and Kuroo walk across the open campus to the building where you have all your business classes. Kuroo asks you how you're feeling, and when you tell him you feel a bit rested thanks to him, he grins and wraps his arm around your shoulders. And even though at first your whole body tenses up at what he's done, you quickly relax and place your head on your shoulder.
When you arrive outside your classroom building, you pause and turn to face Kuroo. "Thanks for walking me over," you smile.
"No problem," he replies. "Text me when you're out, okay?"
"Sure. And I'll let you know when I'm free for the diner," you hum.
"See you then," he smiles awkwardly, almost hesitating at the same time. You watch him for a moment before quickly clearing your throat and waving goodbye. As much as you enjoy your time with Kuroo, you're definitely not ready to let him kiss you goodbye in the middle of your school's campus.
