"Bo?" you call through the phone after folding and putting away your laundry. "Hey, I'm sorry I didn't get your call before. Are you okay?"

"Hey, Y/N," he replies chipperly. "Yeah, everything is really good actually. I just got word from the hospital that my Grandpa is feeling better and might come home soon! I was actually about to go over and visit him."

"No way! That's great, I'm so glad to hear that," you smile. "Want a ride over and a bit of company?"

"Are you saying you'd like to come along?"  he hums.

"I'm not about to pass up a chance to see you genuinely smile after the week you've had," you respond.

"Well, in that case, I'd love the company."

"Okay," you grin as you spin around your room for your car keys. "I'll be there in twenty."

"Take your time. You don't have to rush."

"I won't," you reply when you finally find your keys. "See you soon!"

After hanging up the phone, you hum happily as you make your way toward your door. However, just as you're about to reach it, it opens on its own. You take a step back, too in your zone to realize it's just Phoebe coming back from wherever she had been.

"Hey, what're you so excited about?" she asks curiously. "Going over to Kuroo's?"

"No," you smile. "Bo's grandpa is feeling better and so we're going to visit him."

"And by 'we' you mean..."

"Me and Bo," you shrug. "Is that really a big deal?"

"You know what, no," she sighs a breath of relief. "I'm sorry for overreacting, Y/N. I just don't want you to mess up your chance with Bokuto because of some fling. Kuroo's charismatic. Believe me, I get it, but you've been in love with Bo since you were like an infant!"

"You're right, Pheebs," you nod. "Thank you for being real with me. It means a lot.

"Okay, well then have fun with Bo," she smirks. "Maybe invite him over to your place if your parents are not around."

"You're probably right," you scoff. "I bet my dad's out with some girl. And knowing my mom, she's probably causally stalking him with one of her friends. Or out drinking."

"Sounds like something we'd do," she replies, laughing.

"You're right about that," you smile. "Well, I'll see you later."

"Have fun," she waves as you walk past and out the door.

When you get to Bokuto's house, you send him a quick text letting him know you're there. However, just as you do, you hear shouting coming from one house over. Your parents' house.

You groan as you watch the front door slam and your father storm out. He backs out of the driveway so fast he nearly hits your own car before speeding off down the road.

Just then, your passenger door opens and you jump slightly. Bokuto pulls you right out of your thoughts as he gives you a bright smile.

"Did I scare you?" he asks politely. "I thought you saw me coming up."

"No, sorry. I was too preoccupied listening to my parents' arguing from all the way out here. You must have to listen to them all the time, don't you? God, they're so loud."

"Yeah, I hear them a good amount of the time," he chuckles as he buckles his seatbelt. "But I usually just tune them out."

"I wish they'd just get divorced already," you shake your head as you put the car in drive. "I mean, my mom always says they're 'growing apart' and I'm like okay? Then separate. You know?"

"They probably will," he agrees with you. "But maybe you should enjoy the time you have while they're both around..."

"Shit," you grumble as you look over at Bokuto. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."

"It's okay," he shakes his head. "Accidents happen, Y/N. You know, the odds of death in a car crash is only one out of one hundred."

"Bo..."

"My grandpa's feeling a lot better, I think," he suddenly changes the subject. "I didn't think the hospital would keep him this long for a fall, but I'm just glad he's doing good now."

When you arrive at the hospital, the two of you walk in and make your way to Bokuto's grandfather's room. It makes you so happy to see both their faces light up when they see each other. Grandpa does look a lot better, you can see it in his body language. It's definitely cause for celebration.

"Hey, while the two of you catch up I'm going to down to the cafeteria. I'll be right back," you tell them calmly before walking out. However, when you get down to the cafeteria, a smile grows on your lips. You buy three slices of cake and some candles from the gift shop next door. Even though you can't light them, you still think it's a nice touch.

When you get back to Grandpa's room, you surprise the two of them with the slices of cake. Both of them give you the same excited look when they spot what's in your hands and devour the cake in seconds.

After your celebration with Bokuto's grandpa, you drive him back. As you near your street, you drive slowly up to your house.

"Looks like Phoebe was right," you sigh. "My dad's probably out cheating and my mom's probably drinking."

"Sounds like something you'd do," he chuckles. "I mean the drinking, not the cheating!"

"Apple doesn't fall far from the tree," you grumble. "But at least it's quiet around here now."

"Why don't you park in your driveway then?" he asks.

"You don't want to go to your place?"

"I could use a change of scenery. Besides, I like your house. We have a lot of good memories there together," he smiles at you.

After shrugging in agreement, you park your car outside your house and show him up at the door. You fumble for your keys for a moment until you find the right one and open the door.

"Mom?" you call out, double-checking that she really isn't home.

"Mrs. L/N, your daughter has a boy over!" Bokuto shouts right after.

"Seriously?!" you chuckle.

"Well you know she'd come running if she heard that," he grins, wrapping his arm around you. "C'mon let's go in. You got any cake?"

"Didn't you already have enough?" you shake your head as he leads you toward the kitchen. "And I've got no idea what's in the fridge. I haven't been here since the last time I was at your place."

"Hm, okay," he nods as he walks toward the refrigerator. You smile at him as you sit down nearby and reach into your back pocket for your phone. With impeccable timing, you look down and see Kuroo has just sent you a message.

KUROO: hey, what're you up to?

Y/N: I'm at home right now.

KUROO: really? You're talking to your parents?

Y/N: No. thankfully they're not home.

After that, your phone does ring again, but you choose to ignore it when you see Bokuto clumsily shutting the door with his elbow.

"Holy shit, there's an actual cake in there," you grin, quite surprised.

"Let's go finish it on the couch," he smirks.

"I'll grab the forks!"
