The next Monday you walk to the cafeteria for breakfast with your friends. You load your plate with a whole bunch of sugary crap, hoping it'll give you a bit of energy before eventually going right back to sleep after your class.

"You doin' alright?" Kenji asks you as he sits down beside you at the table Phoebe had chosen.

"I've just a lot goin' on in my head," you shake your head as you look down at your plate.

"Hey," Phoebe interrupts the conversation. "You see that girl over there?"

When Phoebe nods in a particular direction, you and Kenji follow her eyes toward a girl with long brown hair.

"What the fuck, Phoebe," you groan as you watch your ex-boyfriend approach the girl.

"She's Caden's new fling?" Kenji asks.

"Apparently they're dating. And it's serious," Phoebe nods as though it's the most interesting piece of news ever.

"And why are we supposed to care?" you sigh as you watch your ex wrap his arms around the girl's waist.

"Because," she emphasizes, "that's the girl that Bokuto is hooking up with!"

"You're fucking lying," Kenji coughs while attempting to take a sip of his coffee.

"Nope," she shakes her head. "I saw the two of them together. And I saw her location on Snapchat the other night."

You chew the inside of your cheek as you listen to your friends go back and forth about Bokuto and Caden's new girlfriend. There's no way he'd do that. Not on purpose, at least.

"Does he know?" you ask.

"Does who know? Caden? I doubt it," Phoebe shrugs.

"That asshole would drop her so fast if he knew," Kenji scoffs. "And don't give me that look. You know it's true."

You roll your eyes at his statement. He's right. "I meant Bokuto. Does he know he's hooking up with someone's girlfriend?"

"I dunno," Phoebe shrugs. "That's not really my business."

"You're a monster," Kenji shakes his head as he looks at Phoebe. "Y/N, are you going to talk to Bo about it?"

"Yeah," you nod. "But I'll be subtle. I promise."

Later that evening, you drive your car into your driveway and walk across the yard into Bokuto's. When he opens the door, he smiles quickly and steps aside quietly to let you in.

"How're you feeling?" he asks you.

"I was just about to ask you the same," you reply. "I feel tired."

"Me too," he agrees.

"Have you been going to the diner?" you then ask as you follow him into the kitchen where he opens the refrigerator and grabs two bottles of spiked drinks.

"Do I look like I have been going?" he asks as he takes a step back to show you that he's still in his pajamas.

"Right," you nod as you look down at your drink. "Sorry."

"It's okay," he says, reaching out to you. He quickly pats your shoulder before walking off into the next room over.

You follow him and watch as he collapses onto his couch. The ground all around him is littered with empty bottles of soda, beer, and other spiked drinks.

"God, I hope you haven't had any company over here 'cause you need to clean this place up," you mention as you walk over to him.

"The hell's that supposed to mean?" he scoffs.

"Phoebe told me 'bout the girl," you admit calmly.

"Girl?" he shrugs as he puts his feet up on the table in front of him.

"Don't play that game," you scoff. "The one with the pretty hair."

"Her name's Aimi," he says flatly as he looks down at the drink in his hand. "And yeah, she's come over a few times? What about it? Not like you've been here even after what you said..."

"Bokuto, that's not fair. I-"

"You what? Y/N? Too busy playing the victim card? He wasn't your grandpa. Get over yourself," he tells you, still refusing to look at you.

"Do you know who she is? Or is it just some random hookup?" you continue to pry, trying to see if he knows before telling him the truth about the girl he's been seeing.

"What the fuck do you care?" his voice booms. He takes his feet from off the table and sits up to finally look over at you. "You don't get a say in the things I do. You're my friend, not anything else, Y/N. Mind your own damn business."

"I know I'm your goddamn friend that's why I'm here!" you shout back as you reach into your pocket and pull out your phone. "Just let me show you-"

"No," he interrupts. "That's enough."

You look up and watch as Bokuto stands. You quickly do the same and stay still as he lifts his hands to your shoulders.

"Please go," he says as he gently pushes you backward, leading you toward the door.

"Bo, just let me show you..." you plead with him as you fumble with your phone. "That girl you've been hooking up with is Caden's girlfriend!"

"Really, Y/N?" he shakes his head, not believing you.

"No, I'm serious! I took a picture of the two of them this morning. Look!"

Just as Bokuto's got you halfway to the door, you finally find the photo and show it to him. He drops his arms from your shoulders and stares at the tiny screen.

"Is this for real?" he asks quietly.

"Yes. You really didn't know?" you reply.

"No," he shakes his head. "Fuck. I had no fucking clue, Y/N. Jesus, I'm such a goddamn idiot."

"No you aren't," you shake your head as you reach your hand to his cheek. "How were you supposed to know? It's okay. Really."

"I'm sorry," he sighs. "I shouldn't have shoved you out the house."

"You didn't," you smile softly. "I'm still inside."

Bokuto nods his head as he looks down at the floor between the two of you.

"How about we clean up that mess by the couch?" you offer. "It might make you feel a bit better. And then maybe you should take a nap."

"Okay," he agrees as you lower your hand and intertwine it with his. "Thank you, Y/N."
