When you and Bokuto sit down on the couch, you dig into the half-eaten cake with a big forkful.
"I guess this is how my mom's been dealing with her stress," you hum just before taking a bite.
"Mmm, good coping style," Bokuto nods. "Much better than sniffing coke."
"You're hilarious," you roll your eyes.
"How is that going, by the way?" he then asks as he eyes you up, curiously awaiting your response.
"I haven't been sniffing if that's what you're asking me," you reply.
"So then... Kuroo?"
The way Bokuto looks at you so intently makes your whole body freeze up. Your mouth runs dry as you try to think of something to say to him. But how are you supposed to tell your crush that you're casually hooking up with his best friend to cope with all the stress from school and home?
"I, uh..." you begin. But thankfully, you're saved by someone ringing the doorbell.
"I'll get it," he says as he stands up and puts his fork back down on the cake tray. "Be right back."
"Thanks," you sigh. At least you can take this time to think of something to say. Or maybe just avoid it entirely and change the conversation? Like, 'when's my next shift' or 'what're you gonna do once Grandpa gets out of the hospital?'.
When Bokuto returns, he plops down beside you and lets out a distressed sigh.
"Are you okay?" you ask him. "Who was it? A burglar?" you add, teasing.
"Something like that," he hums as he wraps his arm around your shoulder and pulls you close to him. You smile softly as you wrap your arm around his waist and relax your head down on his chest. "It's okay, they're gone now."
The next thing you know after that, you wake up to a loud buzzing and a bright light pouring into the room.
"Shit," you call out loud as you sit up. You're still at your house and it's morning time. You quickly reach toward the coffee table in front of the couch and grab your phone. It's 5 a.m.
Upon unlocking your phone, you see that Phoebe has messaged you a dozen times, telling you about the sudden plan that she and Kenji just came up with.
"Y/N?" Bokuto calls groggily from the couch beside you. When you look over, you see him struggling to open his eyes. "Is everything alright?"
"Well, somehow we're still alone in my house. I've got no idea where my parents slept last night," you scoff as you look back down at your phone. "But on the bright side, Phoebe and Kenji are throwing a party at Kenji's house since apparently his parents just took a surprise trip to London."
"London, huh?" he grins as he stretches his arms out. "You gonna go to that party?"
"I dunno," you shake your head as he wraps his arms around your waist. "I'd like to but without Ku- I mean, they're gonna be huffing..."
"You won't be alone," he reassures you. "And I could use the break from reality, too."
"You want to go?" you ask, looking over at him curiously.
"If you're there," he replies tiredly.
"Guess I'll see you later tonight then," you smile.
"Maybe Grandpa will be out of the hospital by then," he hums, returning the gesture.
"That would be great. Let me know if you need anything, okay?"
"I will."
Once you get back to your dorm, you see Phoebe laying on her bed watching her phone. "Hey," she smiles brightly when she sees you. "You're back."
"I am," you smile softly as you place your car keys on your desk. "Did you miss me?"
"You know I did," she chuckles as she sits up and crosses her legs to face you. "Did you get my text?"
"About the party? Yeah," you nod. "I'm in. Oh, and Bo wants to go, too."
"Oh really?" she smirks. "You were still with Bo this morning? Is that why you didn't come home?"
"Yes, but it's not like that," you sigh as you sit down beside her on her bed.
"Nothing happened then?" she asks, pouting softly.
"No."
"I'm sorry, Y/N," she replies as she slides her arms around you and pulls you into a tight hug. "But let's not let that kill our vibe. You still want to go out tonight, so fuck thinking 'bout him. We're gonna go out and have a good time, just us."
However, just as she finishes her monologue and slides off the bed all excitedly, there's a knock on the door.
"Well... us, Kuroo, Kenma, and Akaashi," she smiles awkwardly.
"Seriously, Kuroo?!" you grumble as she walks to the door.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know there was gonna be drama!" she says in her own defense. "Want me to send them back?"
"No, it's fine," you shake your head. "I'm gonna head to the bathroom to shower and change. I'll be back in a bit."
"Okay," she hums chipperly as she puts her hand on the doorknob. "Hey, guys! C'mon in!"
About two hours later, after pregaming in your dorm, the five of you leave campus for Kenji's house. In the Lyft, you sit beside Kuroo, chatting and laughing until you arrive at Kenji's house.
Kuroo takes your hand as you step out of the car and walks beside you to the front door. Meanwhile, Phoebe, Akaashi, and Kenma walk in front of you. Phoebe's got her arms around either one of them, giving them a quick pep-talk.
And then, the party starts. Someone you vaguely recognize opens the door for you all, and you walk inside. Though you were kind of hoping it would be Kenji. He'd know if Bokuto was already here or not.
But instead, you're forced to quietly search each room you walk into for Bokuto, with a different man at your side. A man who starts introducing you to other people- telling others "This is my girl, Y/N." while all you can do is smile softly and look around the room for the one you truly wish was introducing you to people that way.
