Whatever was happening around me, I had no idea. Things weren’t exactly going according to plan and I was unsure of how I ought to feel about any of it.
“Kenny, what’s going on?” Sarah demanded, edgily, asking me the same thing I was asking myself.
“Trust me when I tell you that I have no idea” I mumbled back, pulling her along in frustration.
Her wrist squirmed in my palm “Kenny, you’re hurting me” she winced as I tightened my grip.
My head swam. How had any of this happened?
“Kenny, please!” she whimpered and I let her go.
She backed up two paces, holding her wrist in her hand. I sighed, clutching my temples.
How was I supposed to hurt someone like her?
Seeing my worried expression, Sarah closed the gap between us, and held my face by the hand.
“Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out in a quiet place.” She told me, soothingly.
I looked at her, my head and heart in dilemma “You should go back to your dorm”
“What?” she laughed “No! I’m here to help you out”
“This is Siren business, Sarah” I warned her “You can’t handle it”
“Well, I’d like to watch you handle it at close proximity” she folded her arms, stubbornly, as if it was all a joke.
“You really don’t understand the magnitude of the situation, do you?”
She considered it “no”
“Then do as I say and go back home!”
She raised a stubborn eyebrow, and then grinned.
“That’s it! That’s where we should go!”
“What?” I asked her, never being able to keep up with the gears underneath those burgundy locks.
“Home! You can think in peace there. Since White Rose isn’t an option, we should go to yours.” She nodded “Now, where do you live Kenny?”
“Sarah…I” I sighed “That’s a brilliant idea. It’s not too far from here” and reached a hand out, smiling at her “come on.”
She smiled back and held my hand, then stretched on her toes and pecked my cheek “sure.”
Whoever it was that was messing with me, was going to pay.
Even though Sarah’s affectionate nature had calmed me down a bit, it wasn’t long lasting.
By the time we reached the deserted mansion number two owned by my family, I was fuming all over again.
“Kenny…someone’s here to see you” Sarah called.
“Send him in.”
“All right” considering all her tries of pacifying me had failed, she had nothing else to do but sigh and go to greet whoever had come over.
The mansion was still clean, because the servants took care of it.
The events were utterly interrupting my plans for Sarah’s last night.
