Luke- Idiots on My Tail

A few Sirens were chasing me through the hallways. I rushed up to my room, grabbed Flectare, put it on, and jumped out the window. Flectare also acted as a set of replacement wings and helped me fly without unleashing Siren power, so the tattoo’s magic wouldn’t weaken.

The Sirens spread their wings and took flight behind me. I shot at one of them but he dodged.

“Wait!” he called out “We have been ordered to retreat and apologize to you, Luke White!”

Was it some kind of trick? A joke?

“Mr White! Wait! We have to apologize. We were unaware that Sirens and The Committee are allies! We cannot harm you!”

I stopped in mid-air. That’s right! How could I have forgotten? We’re allies!

The Sirens lined up, horizontally, and bowed down all at once “We, from the Executive of the Siren Law System, apologize on the behalf of the Judiciary’s attack. It would be a great honour if forgive our disgraceful behaviour. We didn’t have the slightest intention—”

“That’s all right” I cut in, before they could start an apology speech. God, Sirens were always so uptight.

“Where is the Judiciary, though?” I asked

“With all due respect, Mr White, the Judiciary is being dealt with on our terms.”

“Ok” I decided not to tread on alien territory “You can go back now.”

In single file, they turned and left; like army planes.

Seriously…that turned out weirder than expected.

Firstly, Ralph, Jordan and Julie appeared out of nowhere to help me escape, and then the Sirens realized that we were allies and retreated.

The entire escape turned out a lot different from what I had imagined in my head. Thank the gods that Kenny and I were on better terms than earlier.

Joshua had disappeared as soon as Julie and the others had appeared; saying something like Master Kenny is summoning me. I leave the rest to you to his minions.

Had he come to find me without Kenny’s permission, or had Kenny ordered them to track me down?

Either way, I couldn’t allow myself to doubt Kenny…not after the distance we’d travelled.

Come to think of it I flew forward those Sirens must’ve known where Kenny was.

I sighed and gave myself a face palm, celebrating my slow processing brain.

There was ear-deafening chaos right below me, and as much as I would’ve hated landing there on normal circumstances, I was getting worried.

Putting Vorare back in the pocket, I headed towards the other side of the building, where all the commotion was. The headmistress took me to one corner.

“Luke…we are under attack” she panicked “It’s The Just. Somehow, they’re back and a lot in numbers.”

“What?” I asked, astonished “I thought Chrysler said they’d take a while to reform!”

“Chrysler isn’t god. He was wrong. They’re here”

“Well then, somebody’s gotta keep them at bay” I sighed, and took off my cape from underneath Flectare “I’m going in”

“No!” she ordered “You can’t”

“Why?”

“Because it’s dangerous” her tone was desperate, as if she needed me to stay back. I gave her a quizzical look “It’s dangerous if we don’t do something about it. I need to go”
