I've Always Wanted to See the Universe

I've always wanted to see the universe:
Far away galaxies and nebulas,
the birth of a sun and the death of stars,
the moment when a moon finds its orbit at last
and the crater of a comet seconds after the blast.

I've always wanted to see the universe:
Moons where gravity would make me light
and systems with two suns where it's never night,
planets where the atmosphere would hold me tight,
where home would be distant, but just out of sight.

I've always wanted to see the universe:
All the beautiful things I'd never get to see
and all the powerful things I'd never get to be,
the places to go where I could just be me
and with the blink of an eye be home for tea.

I've always wanted to see the universe,
but I knew the whens and wheres were really just whys,
'cause I'm tied to Earth with invisible ties,
but then I met you and suddenly here it lies.
I've always wanted to see the universe
and I found it
in your eyes.
