Not To Worry

I want to just read a book and not worry if
The author is a person I like.
I want to play music and dance to the riff
And not search for a message implied

I want to watch films where the artists are paid
To be cared for by nurses who still know how to smile
To see companies change and know it's not fake
To wear clothing whose making did not kill a child

I want just one politician I can trust not to lie
Just one climate change ad to really be heard
Just one time to say "we try" and then really try
Just one billionaire doing good in the world

I want to believe in the world and in how it will go
And to trust the in-front-of-me view
"Good things never last" and "never meet your heroes"
Were never supposed to be true

I don't want to dig into a beautiful cake
For the slight chance its core might be rotten
At the same time we're living on too high a stake
For the mould inside to be forgotten

It's exhausting to always wait for the other shoe to drop
I want joyful excitement and a smile that can last
I don't want to grow bitter as I'm growing up
In a world full of future is that too much to ask?
