I'm walking down the street
And the sky is blue
And I'm wearing my favourite jacket. The air smells like autumn,
But summer's still going strong
And the birds are singing
And I have to squint my eyes,
Because the sun shines on my face.
I pass a school and I can hear children
Yelling and laughing and shouting and playing
And the sky is blue
And I'm wearing my favourite jacket.I'm on my way home from the city
And I got to the station right as my train came along
So I didn't have to wait,
But I didn't have to run.
I just bought a birthday present for my sister
And I just know she'll love it
And I get to see her again tomorrow
And the sky is blue
And I'm wearing my favourite jacket. There's nothing on my mind
Except that I could write some poetry again,
Because I'm on break,
So I don't have to work
And I don't have to study
And I can just go to the city and walk down the street
And the sky is blue
And I'm wearing my favourite jacket. And yes, I know.
Next week the weather might not be so nice
And the sky might be grey again
And I will have to shield myself from rain. And yes, life will come back rushing
With due dates and exams
And work and work and workAnd yes, I won't have time
To go to the city
Just to take a walk or buy a present
And I won't see my sister a lot
Because we'll both be busy. And the weather will be cold
And the sky will be grey
And I'll be wearing my coat. And life will be dull again,
Because that's just how life is, sometimes
When you have stuff to do
And you have so much on your mind
So you can't just sit down
And write poetry. But that's not now.
Because right now everything just falls into place.
Because right now I'm walking down the street
And the sky is blue
And I'm wearing my favourite jacket. And for one glorious walk down the street
I can't stop smiling,
Because everything is perfect.(2021)
