Excuse me, excuse me, you forgot your hat,
when you left in a hurry on my shelf it still sat
I found it an hour after you left
so you should come back tomorrow to get it back. It's a very nice hat, I'm admiring it now,
it is so very you, though I can't quite place, how;
maybe the flowers remind me of those eyes of yours,
anyway, you would miss it a lot, I am sure. You were packing for a journey, you didn't say,
and you weren't so sure you'd be back one day.
Your eyes told on you whenever you thought I'd not look,
admitting you were planning on leaving for good. And you didn't tell me so technically I couldn't know,
but the determination in the way that your lips would bow
scared me badly, because suddenly I wasn't so sure
I would see you again once you left through that door.So here is the secret, I have to confess:
I saw you put the hat on your coat when we met,
so you wouldn't lose it upon leaving that night,
it was quite deliberate of you, and it didn't feel right. So, when you weren't paying attention to me
I took your hat and hid it in a place you'd not see
I decided to keep it, so you'd have to come back,
so come back tomorrow, to get your hat.I'm not ready to have seen you for the last while
this house would lose something important in losing your smile,
so I found a way so tomorrow you're back
and then I'll hide one of your gloves and you'll have to come back for that.(2023)
