Chapter 48

(Natalie pov)

March-25th-2019

~Flashback~

Nico: "Ma can I buy this please!!" He holds up a video game.

Maricel: "No, ya tienes muchos de esos en casa, no voy a comprar más."

Nico: " Pero mamá no tengo este, please!!" He continues begging but at the end he walks back with it.

I just walk next to my mom looking around, waiting to pass the chips & candy. I did notice Faith on her phone being her shy self.

Natalie: "Mamá que vas a comprar?"

Maricel: "Comida y útiles escolares... ¿por qué... quieres dulces y papas." I try to deny it.

She lets me & sends Faith with me. I grabbed a bag of hot cheetos & takis, now it was to figure out what candy to pick.

Natalie: "What candy should I get?"

Ask her multiple times & she ignores me on her phone.

Natalie: "Who are you texting?" I lean in to see who.

Faith: "It's none of your business."

Natalie: "Is it Ariana?"

She doesn't say anything or deny it.

Faith: "Mom is not going to let you buy two chips."

Natalie: "She will because I'm the youngest." I smirk.

She rolls her eyes & we walk back to our mom. My brother is bored like always shopping with our mom is only fun if we get to buy something.

Nico: "Bored, I'm bored, can we go home." He whines.

Maricel: "En un ratito aún tenemos más para comprar, ve con tu hermana necesitamos sopa y arroz."

He groans & he goes with Faith while staying with mom being all cute & innocent.

Finally after getting everything, heading to check out that moment is when I realized. I was just excited & very happy to get my chips.

I saw two girls holding hands & being really close to each other. I didn't understand it, I just thought they were close friends. I was young & I didn't understand, mom did though & Faith too.

Maricel: "Eso no está bien, una mujer no debe estar con otra mujer, nunca, no entiendo por qué lo hacen."

I hold my chips & just look at my mom talking. I look over at Faith who shyly & nervously looks down & away.

Maricel: "Mis hijas se casarán con un hombre cariñoso, inteligente y guapo, ¿no es así? No pensarás así sobre una chica, ¿verdad?"

Faith: "What me!?...nunca de ninguna manera" She said nervously.

Natalie: "I'll be really smart & intelligent so I don't have to get married." Mom smiles & rubs my head.

Nico: "In your dreams, I'm going to be famous so I can buy whatever I want."

Mom pays & we leave only me looking back at Faith walking behind me with her phone in her hand. Something was bothering her. I just didn't know what.

I lay on my dorm room bed thinking about that moment & other ones. I know our mom it's going to be tough on her but afterwards she'll come around I think.
