Felix went about his day, checking the inmate's files. There were those who were eligible for parole, and those who were about to be released from prison.
Not wanting to make a mistake, Felix had to go through it carefully. Trent had come and helped explain about how to make decisions about such things.
"You can decide this based on the merits and demerits points of the inmate. If the merits points are high and the demerits points are low, it means they are exemplary inmates, while if it's the other way around, it means they were troublemakers," Trent roughly explained.
Felix nodded in understanding. He wasn't stupid to not understand these things, however, asking for help from someone who was much more experienced was never wrong.
He actually had other reasons to ask for help from Trent. To observe Trent.
It was part of the deal that he had made with the higher up when he was transferred to this job.
There was something that was going on in this facility that he needed to uncover and report to the higher up.
Actually, they weren't sure of the matter themselves. Felix's job was to discover if there was something going on or it was just their assumptions.
So, Felix started with observing and investigating Trent, who was the Deputy Warden of this prison. He will then have to check every correctional officer in this place.
"The incident that happened in the private visitation room. What do you do to both of them? Why didn't I get the report?" asked Felix.
"I sent the lawyer to the hospital. While Officer Jin, I had reprimanded him," said Trent.
"Reprimanded? Shouldn't he be fired from this job," Felix asked sternly.
"This is Officer Jin's first offence. We have demerits systems for the officers too," replied Trent.
Felix scoffed, "I know that. But receiving bribes and attempted r*pe is not a minor offence," replied Felix with a clenched jaw.
"That was just your assumption, Superintendent He. Officer Jin was just restraining the inmates because she was being violent to the lawyer," Trent tried to stand up for his fellow warden.
Felix stared at Trent, "Is that what Officer Jin said to you?" asked Felix darkly.
"Yes. The inmate had kicked and butt head the lawyer. Thus, Officer Jin had to come and restrain her," replied Trent.
Felix pursed his lips, before he spoke again, "Deputy Trent, I think you have mingled with the criminals for so long that your mind is now muddled with what is wrong or what is right. Please give me the full report of the incident and I will handle everything," Felix said. "Did you forget, I was the first to come to see what was happening inside the room?" added Felix.
Trent clenched his fist, "Alright. I will send the report to you," he said. "If there's nothing more you need my help with, I'll go." Trent stood up and saluted Felix.
Felix watched as Trent walked out of his office.
"Tch, restrained for being violence? Who are they kidding me?" Felix snorted.
Felix's gaze turned murderous when he replayed what he saw inside the room. From the file on his table, Felix took out crumpled papers.
He read the first page and flipped to the next one until he had read everything until the last page.
"A contract."
"Was this what something that the higher ups were looking for?" he asked himself. The lawyer was just a representative of something much bigger. An organisation.
"Did she fall into the trap of this organisation too from the start, or was it just a coincidence that her situation fell into their usual modus operandi?" pondered Felix.
Jasmine's face invaded Felix's mind. Felix looked at the clock hanging on the wall, "Is she fine now after a day's rest in the infirmary?" he wondered.
Felix was battling with his inner feelings. He kept thinking if he should check on Jasmine or not.
"Arghh, I'm just doing my job." He convinced himself. He was finally defeated by his desire to see Jasmine again, and stood up.
Fixing his clothes, Felix walked towards the door to exit his office.
'Is she still in the infirmary or is she already back in her cell?' asked Felix in his mind.
After some thoughts, Felix decided to check the infirmary.
"What happened?" asked Felix as soon as he saw Jasmine lying on the bed looking paler than she was before.
"Her temperature suddenly spiked in the evening," replied Nurse Goh, the male nurse.
"Haven't you given her medicine in the morning?" asked Felix.
"No. We didn't. Doctor Jessica said her temperature wasn't that high. And you know, in this place, inmates usually faked their sickness to get their hands on drugs," replied the nurse.
When they read Jasmine's file, and read that she was caught due to drug-related crimes, Jessica decided to not give her the cold medicine.
"Where's the doctor?" asked Felix.
"Doctor Jessica already left. It's already past our working hours. I'm just waiting for the night duty doctor to come," said the nurse. He took out the cold medicine from the locked cabinet and put it on the medicine tray.
"Is that medicine for her?" asked Felix.
"Yes. it's medicine to lower her temperature," replied the nurse.
"Leave it to me. I'll give her the meds. You can go back. I'll stay here until the night duty doctor comes," said Felix.
"Thank you, Superintendent He." Nurse Goh's eyes brightened, and he gave a curt nod to Felix.
The nurse took his belongings and walked out of the infirmary in a hurry, while looking at his watch.
"Looks like he had an appointment for the evening," mumbled Felix. Felix offered to help look after Jasmine because had seen the nurse in a restless state.
He took the medicine tray and a bottle of water and walked to Jasmine's bed. The infirmary was empty, there were only Jasmine and him in the infirmary..
Felix looked at Jasmine, Jasmine's body was fully covered by a blanket, and only her head was visible.
Felix's forehead furrowed, looking at Jasmine's pale face and sweaty forehead.
Taking a seat next to the bed, Felix called for Jasmine's in a low voice. "Miss Paxton," he tapped on Jasmine's shoulder, hoping to wake her up.
However, the reply he got was Jasmine scrunching her forehead in pain and mumbling incoherent words.
Felix slowly pulled Jasmine up and supported her back with his shoulder. He fed the medicine pills into Jasmine's mouth and slowly poured the water into her mouth to wash down the pill.
However, Jasmine coughed out the pills and the water from her mouth.
'What's with you and water? Do you like getting wet?'
Felix picked up the tablet that Jasmine had coughed out and tried to feed it to her again. However, Jasmin coughed it out the second time.
Looking at Jasmine's face, Felix's eyes linger seconds longer on her lips.
"Let me try this."
Felix popped the pill into his mouth and drank some water. He then dived into Jasmine's mouth and transferred the pill and the water from his mouth into Jasmine's mouth.
He didn't release her mouth until he made sure she swallowed the pill.
"What are you doing?"
