In Love With My Enemy

Chapter Nine

I woke up in the guest room the next morning. Something felt off as I got up out of bed and walked to Cole's room only to find he wasn't there. I got dressed then walked down stairs. I was only again. School had let out for the summer a few weeks ago so I finally figured out Luke had held me for a long time.

"Cole?" I called, looking every where in the house but I was only. I eventually walked out to the barn. All the horses but Scooting Six were gone. Tears started to well up in my eyes as I tacked up six and climbed onto his back.

"Come on boy." I said, kicking his sides. We exploded down the road and into the woods traveling alone neutral territory lines. Hours later I was trotting Six up to the other mansion.

"What are you doing here?" Called Marcus. He walked over to me with stone cold eyes as I hoped off of Six.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"We gave you a shot so you would be out for a week while we left. Funny you even came looking. Take a hint McKnight. Cole just wants to be left alone. He struck a deal with Luke. He gets Luke's mate and one hundred pack members and in return Luke gets you."

I just stared at him. He was joking wasn't he? A bottomless pit was forming in my stomach as I leaned into Six. He nickered softly.

"If this is some kind of joke it's pretty sick." I said. Marcus sighed.

"It's not a joke and you aren't dreaming so don't ask and just get off of Darkwood land you filthy McKnight. To are not wanted here." Tears welled up in my eyes as I swung myself onto Six.

"Tell Cole I said I thought he was different but I'm not longer blind." I said through my tears.

"No. I won't do anything for a McKnight." He hissed as I turned Six.

"Jessica?" I heard Cole call.

"Get out of here. He hates you." Marcus hissed. I nodded and kicked Six up so that he exploded.

"Jessica." Cole shouted. "Jessica wait." I didn't look back. I heard the wolves coming up behind me snarling and growling but I didn't care.

"Get that horse and take him back." Cole shouted through a mind link.

"Yes sir." someone called aloud right as I reined Six to a stop and tied him up. I stripped right there before shifting and taking off.

I was moving fast but I heard them all around me. I didn't stop but extended more and more until I couldn't extend any farther.

"Jessica." Cole called. He was so close and this was causing me so much pain. I rounded a corner and ran right into him. Cole lunged pinning me to the ground.

Cole's POV

Jessica's eyes were wild and she looked so afraid as I held her there. She growled a little but it then turned into a whimper as she laid her head down and have up.

"Jess. Why are you running from me?" I asked her. She looked back at me with so much pain in her eyes that it made me die inside.

"I was leaving like you wanted." She said. She wouldn't meet my gaze even if her life depended on it.

"I didn't want you to leave. I was coming to get you today then you took off. Why?" Her head snapped around and she glared.

"Well you traded me off for Luke's mate plus one hundred pack members. I was going home to take over the McKnight pack. I'm not your property to just trade. I thought you loved me." She said. I was taken back by her strong words, filled with confusion.

"I never did any of that." was all I managed to say.

"Marcus told me everything. Don't play dumb." That shocked me.
