MOVING ON
Cory sat in the vast hallway of a hospital. After spending so much time with a human, that hadn't been Bella but instead her mother, Renee, she needed the escape. It's been months since she was able to keep up a conversation — with a human — that lasted longer than five minutes, without being in pain. But, she managed to charm her way into Renee's life. Or, at least win her favor. She did it with Alice, and the two pretended to be cousins. They looked similar enough to pass the facade on. Alice managed to get closer to Renee than Cory had, but Cory was still held high up there. Fortunately.

"You can come in now." Edward spoke quietly, his eyes meeting Cory's as he opened the door. A weary smile formed on her face, hesitant, "Great." Renee had left the room for a moment, walking past the girl a few moments prior. Before Cory came in, Bella and Edward had to have their moment — which Cory hadn't minded. It wasn't much of her business in the moment anyway.

Like she practiced, Cory walked slowly into the room. Or, at human speed, a decent pace. She walked into the room. It was cold, cool. Fluorescent lights were off, instead a dim lamp was turned on near Bella's hospital bed. The brunette was laid up, her back pressing against a pillow in a weak attempt to sit upright. Edward grimaced, immense remorse plastered on his marble face. He looked as if he were paying penitence. Taking in a slow breath, Cory looked between the two. The last time she had been near Bella, the girl had been fighting for her life. Literally. Blood was everywhere. Cory could still smell it burning her nose.

"Hey, Bella." Cory greeted, carefully, as if just her words could pain the human if they were too sharp or too loud. One of her hands idly gripped onto the metal bar that formed around Bella's bed. "How are you feeling?" She asked, sincere.

The human sucked in a sharp breath, adjusting uncontrollably in her bed. There was the quietest change in the way Bella's heart beat. Moving her hair away from her face, she lied, "Fine." Cory scrutinized her, eyes narrowing as she trailed over the metal of the bed.
