UNBURDENING
  𖡡 ITHACA, NEW YORK
  SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2008
Ithaca was a breathtaking, 'small' town. For somewhere that seemed like it should've had and attracted more people—it was central New York—it was a surprisingly rural area. Total population: 29,808. More people than in Forks, which they had around 3,000, but the town was still considerably small. But, the Cullens could often fit into larger sized towns easier, too. Growing populations made it effortless to blend in—always seeing new people every day, and then sometimes never seeing them again. It made more sense to stick to cities. Like Ithaca. It was a decent size for the Cullens.

The weather in Ithaca wasn't too much like Forks, but not as far off either. Rain wasn't as prominent here as it was there. Still, it remained cold and chilly at most times in Ithaca. During the summer, temperatures were warm enough but otherwise everything is cool-to-cold the rest of the year. And this place was more autumn like, vibrant. Vast hues of orange and red, all fall colors, which contrasted the blue overcast of Forks. Beautiful fall foliage. Ithaca also endures the cloudy sky, too, and even more so during the winter. Just not all the time, not like Forks.

And it was quite well known for its endless, glorious waterfalls! More than a hundred lines within a 10-mile radius of the downtown area. Putting them altogether, it's a waterfall 7,342 feet tall. And that's 1.39 miles of water, falling. That and the town is situated on the southern end of 38-mile long Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of central New York State.

Ithaca has a wide array of bookstores, shops, restaurants, and cultural activities—even professional opera and ballet companies—with nearby wineries, state parks, farms, and forests throughout Tompkins County. They had a lot to offer! That excited Cory, too. Now, there was much more to do than sit at home and mess with Vance or Emmett—though she would continue to do that too, on the side. Perhaps these could help her become more ... relatively normal. Close enough to normal at least.

Cory really needed the human interaction, and to get better at it. She needed to work on her control as well.

Another reason Ithaca was so popular was because of Homer—or his writings, the Odyssey. Homeland to Odysseus, a famous war hero of the Trojans. Ithaca was the land where Penelope, Odysseus' faithful wife, waits patiently twenty years for her husband to return from the Trojan War.
