There's a whisper between Beomgyu's parents and a member of staff, a shared glance and then one towards the pair who've stopped in their place.

They share their own glance and communicate quietly. Yeonjun furrows his eyebrows and Beomgyu responds with a quick pout. It's a silent ask of what's going on and a reply with the same answer as a shrug. He doesn't know.

"Do you think-"

The sound of Mr Choi clapping his hands together breaks up their conversation and Beomgyu jumps, startled by the loud noise.

"What shall we do next then? A movie. Games. What would you prefer, Yeonjun?"

"I thought you said the picnic was enough." Beomgyu glances over his shoulder where they'd just come from the garden.

"No- -no," Beomgyu's dad corrects, shaking his head. "I meant it was getting cold so we should continue elsewhere."

That wasn't what he had meant at all, but there's been a change of heart and he wants to get to know Yeonjun-his son's boyfriend-better.

"Oh- -It's just that-"

"Please, Beomgyu... We hardly get to see our eldest and you'll be leaving so early if you leave now." Beomgyu's mom joins in, initiating her plea for her son to stay. Those deer eyes Yeonjun observed last time they met are back, manipulating Beomgyu with ease.

He sighs and briefly glances at Yeonjun. "Fine..."

"Great!" Beomgyu's dad nods, placing his hands behind his back and turning around to lead them elsewhere. "Why don't we watch something as a family? Yeonjun... is there anything you're interested in?"

"Ani-"

"Don't answer anime..." Beomgyu whispers.

Yeonjun shoots him a look with narrowed eyes and pursed lips, distaste written on his face. He rolls his eyes and changes his answer, even if anime is close to the only thing he watches these days.

"I like anything that's a soap opera, if I'm honest." Ironic, honest is the one thing he's not being.

He hates romance and the majority of the soap operas he used to see his mother watching growing up revolve around romance.

He remembers them sitting on the floor, crowded around their small box-shaped television after eating their dinner and awaiting their father's arrival from work.

His mother cried at the television a lot and he never understood how she could find it so touching. Their acting was poor compared to the actors of today and everything was so over-the-top and fake. They're only characters, paid to act like their lives mean something together.

It could be the reason he took an interest in the career path he did, lying for a living by putting on a performance and getting paid. It's easy.

However, for him, the pay is rarely good. He thinks Beomgyu may be the change in his low salary statistics.

"Oh really," Beomgyu's mother gasps, suddenly interested. She slows down her pace so she's walking next to her son and his boyfriend, eyes on Yeonjun. "Have you watched The Heirs?"

Yeonjun shakes his head. "I haven't."

"Sweetie, we must watch that! Yeonjun's never seen it." She returns to her husband's side with a high voice of excitement.

Beomgyu huffs out his nose, knowing his mother's going to get her way and he'll be stuck watching the show for the nth time. "You could've lied..."

"Yeah? What if she quizzed me on it?" Yeonjun counters, also huffing.
