"Laying his claim."
Ember nervously made her way to the Defense Against The Dark Arts classroom. "Ember!" Someone whisper shouted at her before she entered the classroom. Ember mindlessly looked around for the source of the voice. Then she was pulled behind a corner with someone's strong grip on her wrist.
"Kieran?" Ember questioned out loud before he shushed her. "Listen, don't tell anyone, but tonight your playing hide and seek with us." He practically demanded although she was deeply confused. "What are we five?" She scoffed letting out a giggle.
"It's a new game I came up with. Tonight a couple Slytherins are finding a place to hide while the professors patrol the hallways. If you and your partner get caught, then you lose and if your the last two standing, then you win." He clarified while looking around at the passing students.
"Why the hell would anyone play that?" She wondered loudly making Kieran cover her mouth with his hand. She backed away immediately to get away from his touch. "Come on Zabini, we can be partners." Ember immediately noticed the desire fill his eyes and the devilish smirk that grew on his face.
"You coming to class?" Another voice spoke making the girl jump. Coven stood tall behind her while looking down at Ember. "Yeah, but are you playing tonight?" She turned to look at Coven with a grin on her face.
Kieran absolutely furious at the interaction. "Ember." Kieran warned with a low growl. "Kieran." Her eyes rolled back in annoyance. Coven looked at Kieran with anger in his eyes for a slight second before changing it once he looked back at Ember.
"Hide and seek right?" He further questioned as Kieran's eyes widened. Having no idea how he found out about the event since he's threatened everyone to keep their mouths shut.
"You can't come unless your a partner or your invited. But your neither so fuck off Drakos." Kieran spat with venom laced in his tone.
"Be my partner?" Ember insisted with a toothy smile. "It would be my pleasure Diamond." He flashed a white smile down at her."I thought I told you to stay away from him." Kieran spoke out while stepping closer to the duo. "And I thought my dad was dead so why do you keep acting like him?" She was slowly learning how to cope with the death of her father. The pain was still there but it was dulled by other good memories.
"Stop acting that way Em, you know you love me." All Kieran wanted was to make her angry. Force her to show the emotions she once did ones he can't remember.
Coven on the other hand was losing his patience with him. He wasn't the outburst of anger type of protective. He didn't lay his claim on women like it was still medieval times.
But he would act if any women felt threatened. Coven would let Ember fight her own battles until she needed him to step forward. Because he knew from the moment he overheard her at the party that she could handle her own.
"I hate you." Ember scoffed with fire in her eyes. "I know you Ember, so I know you can't stop loving me as quickly as you claim." Ember wondered if he was right. But she no longer felt safe when she was in his presence. She no longer admired him despite his faults. She no longer felt desperate to make him happy.
"You did, so why can't I?" She tested as Covens eyes narrowed as he stared Kieran down. He wanted to see what his next move would be. Coven heard he was a violent man but wasn't completely sure if his fury included women. "Who said I ever loved you?" Kieran's head tilted in delight once he saw the falter in her stance.
"You did, so either you were lying then or you're lying now. It doesn't really matter to me anyways. I hate liars." With that she took Covens hand and led him away from the hallway and into class just before it started.
"Hello students, I am Professor Drakos." He said blankly with no emotion. "Take a seat wherever you want. I don't care." He held the classes registry in his hand as everyone began picking seats. Ember and Coven sat in the third isle beside each other with Ember on the end.
"When I call out your name say your favorite spell. If any of you actually cast the spell, you'll find yourself in detention." It was new, none of the past professors had actually done this before.
He started with Gryffindors and like expected they all practically chose the same spell. Then he started on Slytherins finishing with the first three letter until it was Covens turn.
When Professor Drakos heard the spells from the Slytherin students he commented on each one.
"Coven Drakos." His father announced. "Firestorm." Coven announced to the class. "Fitting." Professor Drakos nodded his head.
"Scorpius Malfoy." Was next after calling out more names. "Mimblewimble." Scorpius decided on the spell that keeps people from retelling important information. "Secretive." Professor Drakos decided but wasn't bothered enough to dive in on it.
"Delilah Nott." She sat next to Scorpius behind Ember. "Tarantallegra." It brought a smile to Delilah's face. "Funny." It surprised us when he said it. Proffesor Drakos hadn't given a compliment to anyone's favorite yet.
Class continued and we got to Athalia. "Athalia Riddle." The class waited in anticipation. She sat beside Delilah and Kieran beside her. "The unbreakable vow." Ember knew that she'd pick that spell. She had used it on anyone who made a promise with her. "Boring." Professor Drakos decided with his eyes blank from any emotion.
"Kieran Riddle." As Professor called the name out Covens hand hovered over Embers thigh. Staying in place until she allowed it to press onto her skin. Ember nodded her head while facing the front and Covens hand landed on her thigh. "Serpensortia." Kieran muttered loud enough for us to hear. "Basic." Professor waved Kieran off. He noticeable tensed and glared at his professor.
Eventually they got to the last name. "Ember Zabini." Professor Drakos looked at Ember as did the rest of the class. "Sectumsempra." It was a very painful spell that would cause blood oozing open wounds across the victim chest. "Intriguing." The professor hummed I'm satisfaction.
"Slut." A Gryffindor boy fake coughed.
"A week of detention for everyone sitting in the second row. You can thank your classmate Walsh for that." The entire second row groaned out and yelled at the boy."Class is finished for today but next time I see you be prepared. If you have any questions don't ask me." With that Professor Drakos turned away from us and that was the end of class. "I'd like you to meet my father." Coven suggested with a slight smile on his lips. "Okay." Ember nodded hesitantly as he led her to the front of the classroom.
"Dad I'd like you to meet Ember." Coven spoke as Professor Drakos turned to face the duo. "It's lovely to meet you Ember, my names Cadogan Drakos. Please, when we're not in class call me Cad." The older man insisted as he shook the girls hand with a kind smile.
His demeanor completely changing from before. "The pleasure is all mine, Cad." The younger girl shook the man's hand. "I'd love to stay and chat but it looks like my next class is rolling in." The duo looked back at the rows of seats to see the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuffs sitting down.
"I'll speak to you at lunch son." Covens father patted his sons shoulder. "Hopefully I'll get to know you better soon dear." And with that Cadogans face went back to blank. "My name is professor Drakos, quite frankly I don't care who you are or where you sit!" He hollered to his new class while Ember and Coven left in a fit of giggles.
"I've got to go to my next class but I'll see you tonight Diamond." Coven kissed Embers hand before leaving to his next class.
Leaving Ember with butterflies in her stomach.
