"Dad?" Y/N asked softly, padding into their father's office before bedtime. Ray sat in his office chair, mindlessly plucking a tune on one of his guitars.

"Oh, hey bud! What's up?" Ray asked, grinning and setting the guitar in its stand.

"I um, I wanted to talk to you 'bout something i-important?"

"Of course, honey. Is everything okay?" Ray frowned worriedly. He scooped up Y/N, setting them in his lap.

Y/N shrugged, avoiding eye contact with their dad.

"You can tell me anything, honey." Ray reassured.

"I don't feel like a boy." They confessed after a minute, playing with the sleeves of their pajama shirt.

Ray nodded, staying quiet for a moment. "Do you feel like a girl?"

Y/N shook their head. "I feel...somewhere in the middle, I guess."

"You know, Uncle Gee uses he/they pronouns. Mom and I could start using they/them for you?" Ray suggested, smoothing down his child's hair comfortingly.

Y/N's eyes widened. "Really? You aren't mad?"

"Of course not, hon! Mom and I could never be mad at you." He said firmly.

Y/N smiled shyly. "Could I- could I get new clothes? All I have are boy clothes."

Ray nodded. "We'll take you shopping tomorrow. Do you want to grow your hair out?"

They giggled and nodded. "I want it to be long, like cousin Lily's!"

Ray smiled and patted their head. "We can do that, kiddo. Now, I think it's past your bedtime, hm?"

Y/N giggled and nodded, sliding off of Ray's lap. "G'night, dad! Love you!"

Ray smiled as he kissed their forehead. "Goodnight, sweetheart. I love you more."
