The USS Republic orbits around Star Base 12 on June 30, 2274 and the passengers are transported down to Star Base 12 and the lasts one to be transported down are Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley and on his arm is 19 years old , Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell.
Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell is not an aristocrat or she from a gentry family . She is American and she is an orphan and she was part of the relocation program started by The United Federation of Planets in 2270, however, in 2273 it was defunded and shelved as a failure.
Waiting on Star Base 12 in the Dukedom and Territory of Norfolk is Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR, Duke of Norfolk Territory, with him is his first cousin twice removed, Lord Richard William Carey , Duke of Bedford Territory and his youngest son, Lord Andrew Charles Howard to greet all the new arrivals from The USS Republic.
Lt Kevin Thomas Riley with Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell on his arm walk up to Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR and Lord Richard William Carey and they bow and curtsy to them and Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR offers his hand to Karissa to help her to rise from her curtsy.
"Welcome home. Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley. I am so sorry to hear what happened to your dear family. I have it on good authority that Star Fleet is looking for Kudos and his daughter." Lord Charles Andrew JR tells him.
"Thank you, Lord Howard." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
"This is Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell from Planet Earth." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley states."She is a part of the United Federation of Planets relocation program."
"I thought it was defunded." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR asks.
"It was Sir. Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell left Earth in 2270." Lt Kevin Thomas Riley explains.
"She is one of 500 orphans that left Earth in 2270." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley explains.
"300 of the orphans got out on Star Base 10 and the remaining 200 came on to Star Base 12." Lt Kevin Thomas Riley explains.
"The United Federation of Planets is helping them to start a new life here." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley explains. "Karissa will be living out at Madame''s Boarding House for young women."
"I believe Madame Valois Boarding House is out in Bedford Territory." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains .
Lt Kevin Thomas Riley and Lord Richard William Carey are good friends and Lt Kevin Thomas Riley asks Lord Richard William Carey to drive Karissa to Madame's Boarding House and Lord Richard William Carey is happy to do it and he walks over to Karissa and tells her " Welcome to Bedford Territory. My great-great-great-grandfather, Lord John Carey created it in 2164 and my my great-great-grandfather was born in 2165." Lord Richard William Carey explains, "My great-great-grandmother was the sister of Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR, brother, Lord Charles Andrew Howard SR."
"No counting for good taste."Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR says with a laugh " My grandfather and father were both disagreeable old men."
"This is my youngest son, Lord Andrew Charles Howard. " Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR tells Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell " He is a big rough around the edges."
"Lord Andrew Charles is a rough, uncut diamond that needs cut and shining but he would make a good husband for the right woman." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR e explains.
Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell looks at Lord Andrew Charles Howard and she answers " Your son is indeed a rough diamond and he is certainly uncut."
"Why is he is unmarried Sir?" Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell asks.
"My youngest son has the silly motion to marry for love and he knows that Aristocrats don't marry love as we marry for other reasons." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.
"I don't think your son is silly for wanting to marry for love Sir. I don't subscribe to your silly protocols of marrying for any other reason but love." Karissa Elizabeth Ann tells him.
"I don't believe in these archaic practices of pre-arranged marriage." Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
"If I had my way I would abolish the practice." Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR ' May I ask you a question and I hope I don't seem impertinent but did you have a happy marriage?"
Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR doesn't know how to answer and Lord Andrew Charles looks at his father and he asks him " Please tell the truth Father."
Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR speaks up " Mademoiselle Karissa to answer your question. No I didn't have a happy marriage but it produced five children."
"My Duchess and I have five children, three sons and two daughters." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains, " My Duchess is the daughter of The Duke of Lennox Territory."
"Do you have any grandchildren Sir?" Karissa asks.
"I have three grandsons and two granddaughters as my two daughters are married on Star Base 10 to the heirs of The Earldom and Territory of Westmoreland and The Dukedom and Territory of Buckingham Territory." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.
"You have no grandchildren by your sons." Karissa Elizabeth Ann explains, "Have you ever considered that they are infertile?"
"How long has your eldest son been married? " Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell asks.
"Lord Charles Andrew Howard the III is 20 years old then Lord Andrew Charles and Lord Patrick William Howard II is ten years older than Lord Andrew Charles. Lord Charles Andrew Howard III was married in 2251 and Lord Patrick William II was married in 2258." Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.
"I see your oldest son is 44 year old and your second is 34 years old and still no children." Karissa Elizabeth Ann tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
"One wife is 42 and the other wife is 32 years old, and don't you realize that if your eldest son's wife has a child at this age. It will be called a High Risk pregnancy." Karissa explains.
"As for the wife of your second son, she could also fall into the category as a high risk pregnancy." Karissa tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
Lord Charles Andrew Howard looks at his grandnephew, Lord David William Beck who is the medical officer on Star Base 12 and Lord David William Beck tells his granduncle, "It is true Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR. The child could be born with down syndrome or may not."
"It seems to me that none of the men in your family haven't married and what they are waiting for. Don't tell me they are waiting for the good fairy to bring them their bride." Karissa tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
"I don't believe in fairy-tales or the good fairy, Lord Charles Andrew JR. I watched my fiance die of prostate cancer brought on by the long term side effects of radiation sickness." Karissa explains, " I watched my family die one by one due to it." Karissa Elizabeth Ann explains.
"I am sure that your diamond in the rough will in time find his bride." Karissa Elizabeth Ann tells Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR.
Lord Richard William Carey looks at his first cousin twice removed, Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR and he walks over to where Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell is standing " If you are ready to go to Madame Valois Boarding House. We will start on our way." Lord Richard William Carey asks Karissa Elizabeth Lowell.
"I am indeed ready to go to Madame Boarding House." Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell tells Lord Richard William Carey and he offers her arm and she accepts " Good Day Lord Howard and Lord Andrew Charles. Will I see you later Kevin?"
"You bet Karissa. I will introduce you to my best friend, Richard Williams." Kevin tells her.
"I look forward to meeting some ordinary people." Karissa tells Kevin and Kevin, Lord Richard William Carey and Karissa walk to the Carey carriage and Kevin helps Karissa to climb into the Carey carriage and Kevin watches it travel out to Madame Valois Boarding House.
Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley starts to head back to Starfleet Academy , but he notices that Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR and Lord Andrew Charles haven't moved and he just walks away.'
