Chapter 32
The chase
Rain pelted her skin as she ran. At least the air was warm, and the promise of summer was right around the corner. She could hardly see a thing and that was just the start of her problems. She tripped and fell several times. Hearing yelling, and roaring off to one side she knew her brothers were fighting to get to her. She could feel it through the link. Both of them yelled that they were coming.
Of course that alerted so many other people that the Windalyn was gone. Lake had to turn once around and run.
Her pokeballs...where were they? She couldn't tell, actually it was so dark and she wasn't even sure if her pokeballs were even in her bag anyways. Guh she felt sick...
"Lake." She heard someone say in a sing-song voice coming up behind her. She turned and ran toward some rocks. She could hide there. With the cover of night with the now muddy outfit perhaps she could hide?
"Damn it!" She heard the guy. "Little snot is faster than she looks."
"Might have learned some dodge and quick attacks. So be careful." She gasped as she felt something hit her back. She looked down and suddenly felt horrified. A pokeball opened and attempted to pull her in. She didn't like that feeling, she felt like she was being split into several different pieces. Was this what her pokemon felt like? Probably not. It spat her back out and she ran.
"Damn! We'll have to battle her." Lake heard a more feminine voice yell.
"I've already got a master!" She tried. There were several different people laughing at this.
"We don't care. Our boss wants a word with you." Lake gasped as she slid down an embankment and hit a rock. Her arm stung and her knees were scrapped. She couldn't stop now though. She couldn't get caught. She needed to pull them as far away from Ingo and Emmet as she could. The farther away the less danger they were in.
"Get over here girly!" She gasped as someone grabbed hold of her hair and pulled. She cried out in pain, as he shook her a bit trying to get her to stop thrashing around.
"Lake!" She wasn't sure which one called out for her. They were close.
"Oh they're fighting hard aren't they?" The man's hand grabbed Lakes' neck and squeezed.
"No...don't..." Lake's words were cut short as her airflow was cut off.
"Sorry, but this is the best way. I won't kill you. Promise." Lake's shaky hand reached up to pull the man's hand from her. The night sky lit up a bright white and yellow. Electricity flowered through the man and the two standing just behind him.
Lake hit the ground hard. She wheezed as she kept running. No, she couldn't stop now, she needed to keep going. For her brothers. Her tiny legs ran toward where she heard them.
Her legs kicked through mid air before she realized she was running on nothing. She was falling, and she hit the side of the embankment several times before she finally hit the bottom.
She rolled onto her back and looked up toward the opening of the ditch. She saw a pair of purple eyes looking down at her.
"Ava?" Lake crocked out as she tried her best to sound normal. She watched as the person pulled something from their pocket and smiled as she heard the click of the gun's hammer.
"You've gotten to be more trouble than you're worth, and now that I have a stockpile of you bitches. I don't think I'll be needing you anymore." Deeds pointed the gun at her and smiled. Those perfect white teeth...oh how Ingo wanted to...
She gasped as she saw Ingo body check Deeds out of sight. She could hear them both fighting. Her heart was pounding in her head. She tried to call out for him, but all there really was, was a squeak and a sob.
There was a bright flash and a bang.
"Ingo!" The horror she felt was incredibly overpowering. She was pretty sure all of them felt it. She couldn't see anything after that. Just the tears that ran down into her hairline. The sobs that wracked her body hurt her sore body. Squeezing her eyes shut she didn't want anything but her Master to come. She wanted to be comforted.
The soft hand that ran along her face. She opened her eyes and she looked with as much shock as she had given that rocket grunt on the man leaning over her. The black hat had a hole in it, her fingers roamed over his face almost checking to make sure he was real. Her roving hands ran along his chest and arms.
Ingo let off a chuckle that turned into a laugh as she hit his ticklish sides. Emmet did say he was ticklish.
"I'm okay Lake, really...I'm here." He took her hands in his and kissed her scraped knuckles. Holding them to his chest so she could feel his heartbeat. She curled into his arms and let him hold her. She was so relieved.
"You scared me..." Lake finally was able to say.
"I scared me." He let out a labored breath he seemed to have been holding. "I thought he had shot me...got my good hat though. The one you picked out." He held it up and smiled.
"Is he...?" Lake looked up and gasped covering her eyes. Oh he didn't want her to see Deeds like that. He had left him on the grass above. He must have attempted one last...
The bright flash and the bang filled the air once again.
