Chapter 37

Pain part 2

Ingo felt a nudge. He wasn't going to move, at first he just thought it was either Lake or his brother moving in their sleep. It happened all the time and he just grew to accept the movement and continue sleeping. He felt it again a bit more insistent. Perhaps Lake had to use the bathroom? In new places she didn't like going alone.

"All...Alright Lake...let's go t..." He was looking into the eyes of someone he didn't know. He looked around the waiting room to the hospital realizing they had all fallen asleep. The sun was barely peeking over the mountain tops. Cascading the room in an orange glow.

"Mr. Submas?" The doctor called him. Emmet sat up and looked around looking a lot like a deer in the headlights. Much like he did in their office when someone caught him having fallen asleep at his desk.

Then it clicked and they both looked around at the doctor in a rush.

"Is Lake okay?!" They both stood up really quickly crowding the doctor. Ava opened her eyes looking up over the seat she had curled up on. She seemed half interested and totally still half asleep.

"It was touch and go all night. But she's stable, she'll sleep it off for the next couple days. But you may go in." He stopped them from rushing back. Both brothers looked at the doctor. "If you can tell me just what happened to her. This wasn't just some...pokemon battle."

"We were being chased." Ava blurted. Ingo nodded pointing to her.

"Team Rocket had chased us into the woods. A woman had her pokemon hit me with one of his quills." Ingo showed him his lower back.

"Some jerk decided to force us to drink wine!" Emmet shuttered. "Also poured it all over us...I'm sure we smell awful."

"Then Lake fell down an incline being chased by, believe it or not the Mayor...not a good guy." The doctor rolled his eyes and nodded. Obviously understanding that.

"Then we tried to run away from Team Rocket." Ava said. "Lakes Ponyta evolved into Rapidash and ran her right out of the woods. Something happened and he lost its footing and well she flew over its head landing really hard."

"Rapidashes are known for their incredible speed." The doctor looked at Ingo. "One more thing? What kind of pokemon? I'll need to file her with Nurse Joy but I don't know what she is."

"She's...our sister." Ingo told them.

"protective?..." Ingo looked at him and laughed.

"Sure..." He walked toward the double doors letting the doctor lead them back.

The doors slowly opened letting the small family within. Lake lay on a bed with a tube hanging from her mouth. A machine clicked as she breathed in, and then out. There were two IVs in her arms. One that put blood in, the other that put in fluids. Around her head was a large amount of cloth. They could see that one of her eyeridge was puffy. Her hand was wrapped up, and the broken arm was recast. The wrappings were even a different color. A soft purple color.

"What is the extent of her injuries?" Ingo asked the doctor. Emmet looked as if he were going to faint again so sat down.

"Rebroken arm, and broken two fingers, sprained wrist, and ankle, three dislocated ribs, a bruised collarbone, cracked cranial." He looked at the other female in the scrubs and pointed at her. "She wouldn't happen to be...uh..." He motioned to Lake. "One of those pokemon too?"

"Different type." Ava told him. "Ghost/dark type." She finished, she was really starting to get annoyed at explaining that part to people...perhaps she should post it onto her shirt?

"I just never seen someone with that shade of purple for eyes before." He told her. It was understandable. "Well alright, I'll leave you all to it. If you need anything or if something happens just alert one of the staff." The doctor left the room.

Emmet stood up and sighed heavily as if he were fighting the desire to cry. He walked over running his fingers over Lakes uninjured side of her face and leaned in. Whispering in her ear.

"Oh, my Lake. We're okay now. Rest easy. It's all over with. That bad man is gone." Emmet felt Ingo lean in and whispered into her other ear.

"When you're all healed up, we'll have your birthday properly."

Nothing, she was as silent as the stars above.
