Chapter 24

Enjoy the Silence

Ingo and Emmet stood there in horror as they looked upon their sister. Volo's laugh echoing out of existence. Both brothers walked over touching the wall that somehow seemed to be mended. Lake within its green surface.

Her skin looked inky green from the color, her colors seemed so empty. She even seemed to be sleeping, but a sickly sort of sleep. Her small fingers gripping her shirt like it was really hard to breathe.

Emmet hissed in pain grabbing his chest. Ingo pushed his hand out of the way. Perhaps Volo hurt him? There was no sign of an injury. Which could only mean one thing.

"I'm losing the connection." Why did it hurt? It didn't hurt to connect to her...did it? But then again he was feeling nothing but pain because of the arrow. It might have? "It feels like her heart is stopping. Ingo we have to get her out of there somehow. " They both watched Lake jerk and curl in tighter.

"But the book said she's too young to use blood on." Ingo told his brother. Yes that was right, Lake was a child. They couldn't use blood to crack the emerald. They'd have to break her out themselves.

Emmet started hitting the stone. Ingo rushed it with the hope of using his shoulder to try to break it. Emmet started to cough, running his hand over his chin.

"This is just rock Ingo..." Emmet panted out holding his chest again. His cheeks were red with the effort. The look on Lakes face told Ingo that she was probably looking similar.

Ingo rushed the stone again, and again until his shoulder was red with his own blood. Emmet grabbed his brother, stopping him.

"Just use...Excadrill. He specializes in this stuff." Ingo had been in such a panicked state he forgot that they had pokemon. He pushed the button on the pokeball and threw it.

"Excadrill..." He looked down at his pokemon. "Easily, very carefully crack this emerald." The pokemon stepped forward to do what his master said only to realize that Lake was within. He pointed at it and slowly began to etch into the stone.

Emmet leaned against his brother heavily. Lakes' small fingers let go of her shirt, and her body began to uncurl from its fetal position and free float.

"Faster...Faster Ingo...she's..." Emmet fell limp in his brother's arms.

"Faster!" Ingo yelled. The digging pokemon pulled back and slammed his arm into the stone and it shattered like glass. The water within fell at their feet and so did Lake.

Ingo lowered his brother to the ground and he crawled over to Lake scooping her into his arms. Running his fingers over her face trying to get her caked hair from her cheek.

"Lake...Lake!?' Ingo called out. Lake remained motionless. He looked so scared, if he didn't get Lake to wake up then Emmet wouldn't. He put her onto his shoulder and patted her back. Trying his best to dislodge any of that gross water from her lungs.

"Lake...please." Ingo stopped and just hugged her close. The man that showed less emotion than a shoe began to cry.

"Ow..." Ingo's eyes snapped open and he looked down at Lake. Her cheek was red from his shoulder, but that was a bit worse...it was definitely on her lips too. She licked them and then made an odd face and ran her wrist over her lips.

"Lake?" Her eyes and hair began to glow for a moment and then stopped. She looked up at Ingo and then down at Emmet.

Ingo felt it, a sudden spike of fear. He grabbed his chest and shook Emmet's leg.

"How...?" Lake's hair was the same kind of gray theirs was, the same kind of silver their eyes were.

Emmet sat up and looked around at the hole in the wall and then spotted Lake. His eyes grew wide as he looked her over. The deep storm cloud hair was what he saw. Then those bright reflective eyes stared right back at him.

"Lake? You look different." Lake looked at him and then looked at the reflection in the crystal.

"The woman I talked to said I'd look more like you two if you both still wanted me." Lake told them. They both looked baffled.

"Woman?" He asked.

"My creator, the mountain. She held me while I was there. Said that I could stay if I wanted, but if I wanted to go then it was my responsibility to watch over you two." She slowly stood up and rubbed her cheek.

"Here..." Ingo pulled out the still wet handkerchief. He started to wash her face. "Got a bit of my blood on you." He felt the sudden shock and he backpedaled.

"You felt that too?" Emmet asked.

"Yeah...I think it's because I got my blood on her...she even licked it. I donno about you Emmet...but I think we're stuck with the cub now." Lake could feel the playfulness in Ingo's soul.

"I don't have to wonder what you're feeling anymore." Lake said as she walked over and hugged him.

"Ah, you scared us to pieces, kitten." Emmet whispered, hugging her too. He stopped and pulled back.

"Hey!" He ran his fingers over her back and smiled. "Wings." He chuckled. It would be impossible to hide her form at school now.

"I guess from now on no school then huh?" Lake smiled.

"Oh...you wish..." Ingo crossed his arms. Lake stuck her tongue out at him with a giggle.

"Oh now this is cute. I hear someone beating on the walls of my mountain and what do I find? The three people I was told died...and the cavern I've been searching for. I'd say it was a winwin...don't you?" The swirling red smoke came from the man they had grown to despise.

"Deeds..." Ingo and Emmet pulled their sister to them.

"Bring them..." Deeds called out as he turned around leaving his henchmen to do his bidding.
