Chapter 39

Dark

The room was pitch black. Her eyes slowly scanned the room. There was nothing really. Just some light rain hitting the window. She turned a little to see her brothers. Both of them were sleeping on either side of her. Avari was just under Ingo's arm. How did four people fit on this tiny bed? Lake wanted to laugh about that, but the thought alone made her feel so tired.

She closed her eyes and slowly began to fall back asleep. If she hadn't heard something in the corner she would have.

She opened her eyes and her eyes locked onto the blond hair of the woman that called herself her mother. Did they not handle her? But then again she wasn't around, her Rapidash had ran her off to safety.

"Why hello there." She saw the gun in her hand. She turned to look at her brothers as they woke up to see Barbara standing there with a gun. "No no...don't get up on my account." She slowly walked around Ingo and ran her fingers over his shoulder.

"What do you want?" Ingo honestly thought they had seen the last of this horrible woman.

"Oh you already know. Not only is my husband dead. They saw fit to take my son away because I was unfit to be a mother." She grabbed Ingo's shoulder, roughly digging her nails in. Ingo gritted her teeth. The woman's nails hurt like they were razor sharp.

"Oh sweet thing..." She whispered looking up at Emmet as he went to grab her hand. "Do you think you can before I shoot him?" Emmet pulled his hand back.

"You all are about to have one less brother. Which one Lake? Which one can you go without?" She leaned in looking at Avari as she had just woken up feeling her master's pain.

"Please...don't..." Lake's voice was so small.

The door opened and a nurse walked in holding a small carrier to take Lakes blood. It happened every day at 5am.

"What the hell?" The woman backed up and looked around at another nurse.

"Don't try it ladies. I do have a gun." She patted Ingo's shoulder. She leaned in and whispered to Lake. "So...who's it going to be? Which brother matters more to you then the other?"

Lake slowly brought up her hand.

"Flamethrower." To Ingo's amazement and horror, flames burst from Lake's hand and right into Barbara.

Barbara's screaming echoed within the whole hospital. After the flames went out the woman was ash on the floor. Ingo hissed in pain having felt the heat on it. He would likely end up with a rather nice sunburn on his shoulder after that.

Yet he was safe otherwise.

The nurse looked around at the other one and they both ran down the hallway toward the security station not wanting to be in the room anymore.

"Lake...are you alright?" Emmet asked her.

"M Alright..." She looked down at the soft fingers that ran over hers.

"No burns?" Ava asked. Lake looked at her hand and noticed it was red, but other than that it was fine. She shook her head, just as security ran in.

"Damn..." One said looking around at his partner. "Womans definitely beyond crispy."

Lake wanted to laugh about it, but she found herself sleepy. Her eyes fluttered closed as she heard Ingo telling Officer Jenny just what happened.
